When you logoff with IE windows open, then logon again, they would be restored exactly the way they were.

If you know how to program you could write something that would do this. Wouldn't be too hard... might even be done already... try searching on google or something :)

I don't know how it is in XP but hate how Win2k and all previous versions of Windows have the option for Show/Hiding system files buried in the Folder Options/View Tab.

I'd rather have a button on the toolbar for on-the-fly Show/Hide system files and hidden files and folders. I like to keep them hidden most of the time but sometimes need to unhide them.

I did manage to make a workaround by using shortcuts to .reg files and then refreshing the Explorer window, but it's still not as convenient as a toolbar button would be.

It's the exact same way in XP as it was in win2k.

if you use the .NET frameworks you can enable this scenario using XML and webservices.

Opera has the option to start browsing where you last left off - and if it crashes for whatever reason and you had 10 windows open, the next time you open it, it'll give you the option to continue that as well and you won't lose any of the pages you were on...pretty sweet....

I guess the only reason this could be bad is if you were at work looking at "naughty" things, killed the browser when you heard somebody coming, and then mindlessly opened it again later when somebody was nearby...whoopsie.

I'd pay for the Web Service that kills spammers.

I like to be able to choose what I want to install from the Windows CD.
I do not like to fill my HD with features I never use as default.

Not quite exactly what you want, but there is a feature called "Hibernation."

It was introduced with Windows 2000. Now it's also part of Windows ME and XP.

In a nutshell, it dumps all memory information to the hard drive and shuts down the computer. Next time you boot up, it restores everything back to memory so you come back to Windows (almost) exactly the way you were using it.

To enable hibernation, go to Control Panel\Power Options and enable it under the Hibernate tab.

Windows XP Embedded might allow you to do that. Apparently it's a version of Windows XP that may be installed in modules so that it can be modified to fit different embedded devices.

I plan to experiment with it some time soon. I'll keep ATOT updated about the results. :)

Where is this feature in WinXP?

enable fast user switching, when you log off it will kepp all the programs you are running on, you could be in the middle of a dungeon siege battle and it will still stay up.

you can do that too, when running setup for xp just choose to not copy the windows cd to your harddrive and then it will ask you for the cd when you try to install something.

Oh yeah. That's another option.

Too bad that my systems are registered into a domain - like they should be. :D

Sounds great but I'm running W2K.
I don't like the activation of XP. I like to install windows on multiple rigs.
How about that?

OK OK I give up!!

I like to reformat/reinstall as many times as I want in a week without begging MS for a new code.
I like to upgrade, change, modify as many times as I want without begging for a new code.

I didn't say there was anything wrong.

Just to bother you further:

I like to reformat/reinstall as many times as I want in a week without begging MS for a new code.
Problem: You can use Windows XP without activation for 30 days. ;) :D

I like to upgrade, change, modify as many times as I want without begging for a new code.
You don't beg for new code. You talk to a computer who politely asks you for your product key. And the computer calls you out a string of code that you punch in to your system. It's a hassle but you don't "beg" for any code.
