Question Feasibility of using 2.5" SSDs in place of USB flash drives; in enclosures.

I have a few "external SSDs", that I made myself, using some $6.99 Orico external USB3.0 (UASP) enclosures, and some 240/256GB 2.5" SATA SSDs.

I was thinking, I think a 256GB USB3.0 flash drive is around $29.99-$32.99, and a 240/256GB Team Group GX1/GX2 2.5" SATA SSD is $26.99, the lowest price that I've seen so far for those, and you can get a USB3.0 UASP-capeable 2.5" SATA enclosure for around $6.99, that makes it $33.98, in the ball-park, for what is a larger, but arguably superior device for backing things up, etc. (Especially considering the write transfer rates for smaller files on "cheaper" USB3.0 flash drives.)

I do it all the time with my spares, works like you would expect (at least on Windows). I just use a sata 3 to usb adapter though like this because I don't use usb drives very much.

Makes sense to do this, they generally will perform a lot better.

Going much above 32GB, you'll want an SSD anyway. Large cheap USB drives take a long time to fill. Forget about random I/O speeds.
