I have installed the game but when I begin playing it the frame rates are really slow. My computer is old and here are my specs:

Intel P4, 2.4 Ghz
1 GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce 7300 GT (512 MB)

Is there any patch out there to run this game smoother on my system? I really want to play this game.

Thanks in advance!

I'm afraid that system is showing its age, it would struggle as FEAR still taxes it quite hard.

Obviously it's a big move to build another one, can quite understand that.

But simply upgrading that graphics card would give you a performance boost, chucking a 1950pro in there would certainly make a difference. That'd be an ok match for your system, as long as the power supply could provide enough juice.

Good cards too for what they are.

7300GT would get killed by it.

6600GT is a little faster than 7300GT and I was able to play it on low-medium at 1024x768

I would aim for low, considering your CPU is also much slower than the one I had at the time

Thanks @ mancunian!

The thing is my system's motherboard has only an AGP slot (no PCI Express slots) and before I was using a ATI Radeon 9800 PRO (AGP) but I changed that card to the 7300 GT as the 9800 PRO started giving me problems. The 7300 GT was the only AGP type card I could get then! I can run Hitman Blood Money very well and even Splinter Cell Double Agent (on low settings)! When i start playing FEAR there is slowdown...no patch would help??

I already tried on low settings...little help though as the problem persists. I'm hoping there is a patch out there!

Might be worth looking in the second hand ads or ebay, you could get the 1950pro in AGP.

Heck, a card from the X800 series would be a good step up, and is perhaps a better match for that system than the 1950pro.

A patch isn't going to help you here Sam, FEAR is still used in modern benchmarks, it's a demanding game.

This would be of more help than a patch.

Edit: If you do decide to change cards, you really should ensure that your PSU is up to the job. Its ratings should be on a sticker on the unit itself.

@ mancunian

Well, I thought maybe I could be lucky with some patch but looks like I'll have to store the game till I get a better card or change my PC. I'll play Condemned Criminal Origins then, have had that game for a week now. Have you played that, how is it?

I can't say I have, no, so couldn't tell you on that one.

You may as well wait a little while to play FEAR, the enjoyment you'd get from it with your current system would somewhat spoil the experience.

Yes, that's true...better to wait than to play it with horrible frame-rates! Thanks for all the help though, really appreciate it mate! :)

If I'm not mistaken 7300 GT with 512 Vram comes with only DDR2 and that is the real problem. If you would have bought 7300 gt with 256 mb DDR3, Fear would have played quite fain.
