They showed a teaser tonight for TWD's upcoming companion series:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unWdvWPmiPk

Caught this bit the second time:

Reports in 5 states that a strange virus is going around.

So right off the bat, that tells us that it started in multiple locations simultaneously, but not everywhere all at once - 5 specific states started reporting the virus. Possible biological weapon? We know that it spreads worldwide thanks to the CDC guy from one of the early seasons.

Wikipedia has some more info:

* Already ordered 2 seasons
* First season to debut in late summer 2015 (2nd season in 2016)
* Set in LA

Yay, a buffer between now & October! 😀

Couldn't they just have finished the series? This is annoying. Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul were done right. This is just gimmicky.

Because people will watch it.

I personally got bored after the second season of Walking Dead. I'll check this out but don't have high hopes.

First season was amazing. I got two episodes into season 2 and was done with the series. Just got boring. Not necessarily bad but it was too big a departure from what it was promising. Became too much of an interpersonal drama rather than post-apocalyptic horror. I get that it's following a the comic, but I think there was a lot of missed opportunity to take the story in a better direction.

Same reason why I stopped watching, it turned into every other drama show out there.

i stopped watching at the season hiatus of season 4. i couldn't take it anymore. the first season was incredible, but season 2 was SSSSOOOOO slow with nothing happening and them spending way too much time on the farm. then season 3 with the governor was LOL'able and he is such a lame villian.

i've read what has happened since and it sounds like i made the right decision. this show seems LOL worthy just in concept.

Yeah, loved the teaser; got me excited. Made me want to re-watch 28 Days Later or the Dawn of the Dead remake. Hope the cast is good.

I'm such a sucker for zombie shit, even though it's been done to death at this point.

kind of strange the first and just about only responses in this thread are haters of the show...masochist much?

I love the show... Just complaining that they're now going to be mixing two different shows (and thus, storylines). I would prefer that they just finish one and THEN move on to the next.

TWD is amazing. It has its strengths and weaknesses, like all shows, but I think it is quite excellent. I see no reason why they had to wait to do anything. This seems like a great idea.

If anything, the comic has limited them too much. A new series will probably end up being more successful than the original because they won't be constrained by stories that are best told by shaded panels.

I'm definitely excited about it. I like TWD, it's one of the few shows I consistently watch. One of the things you never get to see or hear about in TWD is how everything actually went down. You get glimpses of it here and there or in backstories, but I'd love to see them show how things happened and how they went from normal world to the world Rick woke up to after his coma. Obviously this is a different set of characters in a different place, but just to see how it all starts out is great. I'll be watching for sure.

Yeah, the beginning outbreak stuff is always the best. Love it.

I actually think it's a great idea, because now I want to see how & why it broke out, and what happened while they were dealing with the outbreak.

I'm really super curious about how they're going to explain the cause. The difficult part will be making Rick's journey not seem pointless, like just become some anarchist decided to kill everyone on the planet, you know?

I'm also curious if they're going to meet up at some point...maybe Eugene discovers a cure or something thanks to their help.

That's actually one of the reasons I really like TWD, is because it wasn't your typical outbreak movie - and not just 28 Days Later - Rick totally skipped everything due to being in a coma so the focus of the story is about survival & how Rick changes as a sheriff rather than just fighting off zombies.

Hopefully this is good... because The Walking Dead completely sucks now.

Snoozefest.

This last half since the season break has been pretty slow. The Tyrese episode was almost artsy. I wish they'd put more drama into every episode like the last one. But I also know it's really difficult since they don't have a final season in mind, so you end up with a product like Lost - starts out really strong, gets extended, now the writers are under pressure to fill time, so the episode quality becomes hit & miss.

I don't know, it did not feel atypical to me early on and I had no problem with it.

The problem is too MUCH "drama". Sadly true drama only occurs if I care about any of the characters... in TWD, all the characters are pretty much expendable and horrible. I don't really care for any of them.

I'm hoping this new series, assuming it starts at the outbreak is a little more action and substance versus (attempting to be) character driven. Because the latter is not working for TWD.

The main series isn't going to end for a long, long time. I'm crazy excited for this second series because March to October (November?) is way too long. Fuck it, start three more and have it on year round.

No, I mean, that's what I like about it - it's fleshing out the "what happens after?" question, while still being a fun zombie show.

Bro, Eugene will never ever evolve into the role you think he will. He is nothing more than a computer geek. He will never discover a cure. The fucking CDC couldn't find a cure, you think a simple ATOTer could?
