'Fear turtle,' Gephardt supporters in Iowa cry

Umm.... yeah:p

<snip>
High-profile veterans of his 1988 effort contrasted the new Gephardt with the one who 16 years ago beat Senator Paul Simon of Illinois and Michael S. Dukakis, governor of Massachusetts, in Iowa. These veterans predicted trouble if Gephardt loses a close one this time.

"I do believe that if he loses, the press will try to knock him out," said Donna Brazile, who was Gephardt's deputy campaign manager in 1988 and is now a Democratic strategist not aligned with any candidate.

"But I think it would be a mistake, because Dick Gephardt is not only older and wiser, his team is more experienced" and has built support in other early states, said Brazile, a friend of Gephardt's.

"He's a much better candidate today," said Paul Begala, a Gephardt speechwriter in 1988, a Clinton strategist in the 1990s, and host of CNN's "Crossfire."

Sorry to say Dick - but your time has passed. Good luck though - you'll need it.

Damn I thought this going to be a Maryland Terrapins thread.

Gephardt isn't a turtle . . . he's wiggling roadkill . . . unless of course he pulls out the caucus.
