I don't think much.

I was playing it last night, & with settings maxed & 4x AA, i could play relatively smoothly @ 1280x960.

I was hoping to use 1600x1200, but my system couldn't quite take that @ maxed settings, so i lowered the rez.

It pauses for a second every time it saves a point, & some areas fps dips low, but overall it runs well.

im happy with the performance on a 9800pro at low res (800x600). it still looks very good. i have textures on medium & almost everything else on max. soft shadows turned off.

The optimizations were being made for the 7800's new tech, not other cards.

I read a post on nvnews a while back that indicated that FEAR was SLI aware out of the box. and doesn't need a profile. They mentioned that the only way to get it to run with a single card in an SLI rig was to remove the second card. I also noticed something was up when I was trying to get the best SLI mode for FEAR with the NV control panel - changing the mode had zero affect on the performance.

I managed to snag a copy early from my local Best Buy, running it on a Athlon 64 @ 2.25ghz, 1 gb DDR, 7800 GT @ 475/1200. I originally had it set to all MAX settings, 1280x960, 2x AA, 4x AF. After a few hours, I've settled into medium texture, medium volumetric lighting, no AA and trilinear filtering.

With my original settings, I would occasionally get slowdown into the 30s FPS, which I find really irritating. I find myself alot more sensitive to low FPS than most other people, the jerkiness of movement and the screen is distracting and tends to break the sense of immersion for me. With the updated settings, it's smooth throughout.

Fors some reason with the 81.84 drivers my 7800GTX actually crashes FEAR when i put AA on at all!

Its great!
/sarcasm

Anyway ive put soft shadows on as AA and SS actually conflict with each other and you can get wierd stuff getting produced. On the test stuff i get a min of 29FPS and a maz of over 100FPS. And in the game its pretty damn smooth, except the loading stuff, as ive only got 1gb but all togther its pretty smooth.

3500+ winnie, 1gb DDR400 OCZ, 7800GTX, res was at 1024x768, everything maxed out for CPU and GPU, except AA (it crashes if i do)

The 81.84 drivers are not official, you take risks when you use beta drivers. The 81.82 made any Source game blue screen for me.

Well if it runs on a 9800pro at 800x600, it sounds a little better than the demo.

I may pick this game up. Is there any way to do in-game benchmark runs?

My experience: it runs and looks better than the demo on the latest official drivers on a 6800GT @ultra.

Rrright !

It is in their best interest to optimize the game for all cards, after all they need to make more sales.

Going to go pick this up tonight.

I was getting this in the MP demo:

1280x960 Everything imaginable to maximum 4xAA 8xAF
Soft shadows ON
Volumetric Lights ON

Min. 32
Avg. 64
Max. 121

I can run it over and over again and it variated 1 or 2 fps here and there.
I do find that you need to restart the game demo every time you adjust AA and filtering settings. Otherwise it doesn't seem to take and frame rates do not change.

My best friend has a 6800GT and we compared our settings last night. I have a 6800GT in my P4 2.66 rig and he has a P4 3.0E. So he has bus speed (800), a little MHz (333), and cache (512) over mine. Same mobo and same brand 1GB memory.

At 1280x960, Everything maximum 2xAA 4xAF
Soft shadows on
Volumetric Lights off

I was getting:

Min 22
Avg 45
Max 71

He was getting:

Min 28
Avg 51
Max 80

With these settings, we joined an empty server so it was just him and I. Very smooth. More people started to join. Still good. Eventually, there was about 14 players on this server and it was very playable. We stayed on for about 2 hours.

I also noticed, that the SP demo had the stutter when entering new rooms or turning corners, but the MP demo did not. Anyone else notice that?

Cheers.

What are you worried about Dingo? FEAR seems to run GREAT on R520. Therefore all thats left to optomize for are nvidia cards because performance did not seem to be there.

ATI is all set and ready to rock for FEAR. Don't you worry bout it.

Um, I'm not worried about ATI. Its you and others who keep assuming the other half. ;)

From what Monolith's comments, I think they promised the final game would run better than the demo. I hope FEAR runs on all Nvidia cards including 6600GT which I own btw. :D

Were supposed to take you serious when all you know how to do is click a drop down box and select an emote icon?

On another note, I might pick up fear tonight, should be fun.

Oh, must be my mistake then. It seemed you had something to say about optomizing for ALL graphics cards. I deemed this a little funny because ATI is doing fine in FEAR, 7800's were not. So when you "rolled your eyes" I assumed you had some difficulty adjusting your attitude for the betterment of the thread.
