Fear of manual tranny?

Why do many people fear having a manual tranny?

A lot of people I know buy cars because they're "sporty" and "fast", however, lots of people are afraid to get a manual transmission. One of my friends is getting a new Scion tC for those reasons and still got an automatic. One of my friends bought a new WRX, again, automatic...

I know for a fact they don't drive in lots of stop and go, very little of it infact.

My issue is not with them buying an automatic, but rather being scared to even TRY a manual car!

Dunno...different people have different preferences, and the first few lessons and weeks of practice on a manual transmission can be pretty frustrating...

Yeah, that makes sense assuming they actually try it! Neither of the two people I mentioned have even ever tried a manual tranny...

Not at all? Not even started a manual, had it lurch forward, and stall?

I honestly have no idea and will probably never buy an automatic again (unless I marry someone who can't drive stick) since the automatic transmission costs money and is just another moving part that can go wrong down the road...

Only time I'd by an Automatic is if somehow I got really rich and bought a big, slow car that was just for comfort.

I couldn't even do that.
It would be hell just having one foot there doing nothing at all EVER. I would probably end up left foot braking, which wouldn't be a good thing.
It must be so boring driving an automatic, nothing at all to do. And if you get cruise control on a manual, you're set for highway driving with no problems.

Weeks? I taught myself to drive stick during the drive home from buying my first car with a manual. The ONLY time I experienced any challenge after the first day was when I was backing out, uphill, from a tight spot in a parking ramp, and hadn't yet mastered using the handbrake. I don't think I'll ever own an automatic-equipped car, until and unless there are no manuals available.

Well, if it makes you happier, I traded in my Automatic tC for an 2005 Acura RSX Type S. 6-Speed MT.
HAPPY NOW? I WENT AGAINST THE GRAIN AND GOT MT.

I'm 21, been driving nothing but manual cars since I was 15. I'm soooooo over it. It becomes a hassle so often. And god forbid I have to be in a traffic jam. Socal traffic = super ass. Having to back between 1st and 2nd for an hour makes me wanna take a flaming shyt and spin in a circle wildly while farming goats. I think it has something to do with my inherent laziness.

Had two cars that were manual, thought I was cool also and it was the sh$t. Had to get automatic, cause the truck I wanted for manual was actually more. After driving an automatic transmission for awhile, I was like wow, this is so much easier to deal with for Los Angeles/Orange County traffic. I said F that, not going back ever manual Felt good to do nothing while driving. Not looking to race anybody and feeling "cool" anymore. Next car will be another boring a$$ automatic Toyota truck again or a Camry.

I learned to drive on my friend's manual car, and whenever I drive auto, my right hand gets shifty, and my left foot gets confused and lonely.

automatics never need a $500+ clutch job.

My main car is an auto... I suppose I might own a manual one day, but I doubt it - I love the convenience of an auto.

That said, I'm not afraid of manuals, by any stretch of the imagination... I routinely have to tow machinery and trailers with manual transmission trucks.
