you all act like the child abductor couldn't take the tracking device off of the person they abduct. it would be pointless unless you are looking at the tracking receiver 24/7 and see when it all of a sudden goes off.

It says it would be implanted.

The only way I think this would be a good idea is if the only people to have access to it would be the authorities, but only with parent permission. This way neither parents nor authorities could abuse it.

thats even worse, then they would cut it out of your child to remove it.

i know we've all seen 24, and we know that stuff ain't pretty.

They could put it in a different place in every child, just like a lo-jack.

No, I keep track of my daughter myself. If we go out in public I watch her at all times.

Great idea! Let's make it a law! A couple of generations from now, the government will then be able to track every citizen in the country.

That's not a bad idea. Then when someone dissappeared in Aruba, or ran away from their wedding, they would know exactly where they went.

And when your personal liberties start to disappear as well, will it still be a good idea?

Just slather your kid in raw meat and BBQ sauce, so if they become abducted, chances are they'll be saved by hungry bears.

I don't know. The implant is just a little too paranoid. But I'd consider it if it were harmless and things get worse than they are now. It's really an epidemic. You hear of a story a week nationwide. How about all the stories that don't get reported to national media.

Like AMW's John Walsh has said, (paraphrased): the only way to make sure nothing will happen to your kids is to never let them out of your sight, period. I mean it's a little drastic but think about it. What are the alternatives? I bet if John Walsh were given the choice now of having his son back and never letting him out of his sight another day instead of leaving him alone in a store for 5 minutes (that's what happend right?) and losing him forever, what would he choose?

It's just another way for parents to abdicate their responsibility. Let Big Bro watch your kid!

When kids are abducted, by the time it is discovered, the authorities are notified and they could track the child the deed would have been done. In most cases pervs don't take their time, they just act out their fantasy and move on.

No, I wouldn't ever implant a tracking device in my children.

If my parents implanted some fscking tracking device in me, I'd sue them the day I turned 18. Kids are people - not possessions. Nobody seems to f'ing understand that anymore. If you teach them not to be retarded, they aren't going to willingly go off with some freak, and if you exhibit some common fscking sense in watching them, they aren't going to get snatched. It's down to you, not the fscking GPS network and some good-for-nothing cops.

Does an 8 year old have any business playing outside by themselves? Does a 12 year old have any fscking business walking around the mall with her kiddy friends? Lazy parents need to get their asses off the couch and PAY ATTENTION TO THE KIDS. And that doesn't mean park the kid on the couch, turn on MPT or MTV or Cartoon Network and go do something else - that means INTERACTING WITH THE KID.

What the fsck. I'm sitting here, at the age of 18, giving parenting lessons. Of course, I like to think of them as common sense lessons, but it seems that common sense isn't too common anymore.

You train your kids what to do in case of abduction. Remain aware of situations where this could happen (including rest stops on an interstate), and take action to prevent it.
News coverage only is successful if they present sensational news, and that usually means negative news. So you hear a lot about this stuff. That does not accurately represent the real world. You can't live in constant fear; just be wise.
