Fear is sweet.... if you haven't bought it you need to...

I really think it takes all the good things from the doom engine while removing the excessive jumpiness. Add gameplay up to the par of HL2 IMO and adds a cool slo mo feature like max payne. Plus you can get it for $30 at amazon.

I liked the game a lot, I was a lover of run and gun and had to turn my head around some. Once that was accomplished, the full potential of the game was there for me to enjoy. Suggestion; go for it.

I can't even get the damn game to run. It's very frustrating. I load it up and it just sits there at a black screen. The cpu light will flash for a bit then slowly dwindle to nothingness. I've left for 30 minutes to see if I am just being impatient but still see nothing but a black screen when I return. I had the same problem with the demo.

XP2100+
X800 Pro
1.5gb ram

I do have an LCD that is native in 1280x1024@60hz but I don't see how that would cause a problem since you do video settings in the config before you launch.

Any ideas?

I played the demo a few times, and ummm was unimpressed. Granted the demo was short, does it not do the game justice?

Not sure what you've done to remedy the issue since you didnt include that in your original post -but I'll try to help ya out:

- Reinstall/Install the last drivers for your video card
- Go edit the config file (Settings.cfg) so that it matches your screen rez matches your LCDs native rez (http://www.tweakguides.com/FEAR_7.html) I suspect that this is the issue.

"ScreenWidth" "1280"
"ScreenHeight" "1024"

Man that game kind of sucked. The story line sucked (what I understood of it anyways), the graphics were not all that great, it got to be the same thing after the first few levels, and there is only a vareity of like 4 different bad guys. I got to the 9th chapter and just gave up and unistalled it cause I was so bored with it'

I never finished the demo, but IMO the full game is better and worth getting. The Demo isn't just one level of the game, but is 5ish different parts all put together to seem like a level. When I played the full version I would think to myself, "Oh, I remember this level" expecting certain things around the corner, but once getting around the corner everything was different. 😀

The AI is fantastic, though it could have been even better. Special effects are fantastic as well. Story is pretty good, but I think it could be improved. That little girl will show up unexpectedly and freak you out on numerous occassions.

Alright, I'll give it a shot. Thanks

Never finished the demo? [jk]Man, you must have a real short attention span[/jk]

Thanks for another thread on this

Anyways
Is it as scary as Doom 3 for the first 10 minutes cuase if it is, thten I cant go through with playing it 😱

Had the same problem when I had a big codec pack installed. Uninstalled it and it worked. Coincidentally seemed to get rid of some random BSODS I had.

Xylitol, it's scarier in my opinion, but it breaks it up with intensely fun combat.
It just got the award for technical graphics at Gamespot, which it highly deserved.

You're right I forgot to add in more details. I did throw my arms up in frustration and ask 'Why God, Why?' repeatedly but it didn't remedy the problem. 😛 Okay, in all seriousness I did uninstall the Omegas and installed the current ATI cats but that didn't fix the problem. I'll try out your fix in a little while and report back. Thanks for the response.

*update* Still a no go. I see a flash of something but then it just goes black. Same thing happened with the demo and I'm not having any luck on their *ahem* support page.

I just bought this game yesterday and only had time to play it for an hour or so - but from what I have played so far, I've really enjoyed. Glad i just upgraded my video card (7800gt) or I think my 9600xt would have been choking.

I did have to hit their support forums to read about the 1280x1024 lcd fix but that was easy enough. Oh, also glad I upgraded my sound card (audigy 2Zs and 5.1). Wow, it's actually been a big computer upgrading year for me.

Anyhow, to the OP - yes I agree, FEAR is sweet 🙂

Thanks to the stooopid computer industry, I can't just simply upgrade my video card to play Fear better than I can now. I've got a 6800nu. But I can't plop in a new vid card because my rig is two years old and I just have an AGP slot. So I would have to switch out a motherboard in order to fit a PCI-e card. My processor is fine.....3 ghz. I thought about just getting a new rig......but for what, a 3.2D processor? Anyway, like I said, it's a stooooopid PC market ATM.
