Without going under 30fps, my 7800GT allows me to play at 1280x1024 with graphics settings at maximum except:

AA: Off
Lighting: Minimum
Soft Shadows: Off

These are from observations in the 2nd level using Fraps.

Physics are all at Medium. I don't really care about that.

I cant even set it to 12x10 :p

10x7 minimum everything. I turned Physics up one notch though. At those settings i manage an AWESOME 40FPS average :p

OH YEAH!!

Physics are set to Max.......difference in fps for min and max is 2.........damn that GPU bottleneck!
Note to self: read the note to self that says "get new vcard"

10x7...CPU on maximum, besides sound (medium)...graphics are at highish settings...no AA/AF, and no soft shadows. Some of the volumetric lighting is at mediumish settings.

I usually get an average of 40fps.

how do u set it to 1280X1024??

Edit the configuration file in \Shared Documents\Monolith Productions.

Then change the file to Read Only.

Oh man. 1280X960, everything on and maxed, with 4X AA and 16X AF

I don't usually notice any sort of drops in framerates of games unless either it's horribly low (below 20) or
I see a number on my screen. Neither happened all the way through F.E.A.R.

1280x720 4x/8x

I tried 1920x1080 2x/8x, but it was 20-30 fps. This games is just poorly optimized, it doesn't look that great.

AA and softshadows dont mix. I think AA is turned off (override) when softshadows is on.

Thats odd, im running higher settings than you with the rig in sig...

1280x960, drivers set to high quality, max everything except soft shadows and aa (off), filtering set to anisotropic 4x in game.

You should be able to push higher with some tweaking, especially with a 7800GT.

16X12 2X16X, everything ON or on Maximum. Plays very nice at same settings with Soft Shadows instead of AA as well.

This game definitely gives you a chance to say the SLI money was well spent. ;)

BTW- it plays smooth with 4X, but I like a game to feel like it's running at 100fps at all times.

At 1024 X 768, you gain nothing above 4xAS. The resolution is not high enough for the detailed far textures to appear.

Turn it down to 4xAS, watch the frames go up, with about the same image quality.

Test yourself ;) I did last night, and the IQ is the same at 4xAS @ 1024 X 768 :)

They aren't higher.

Drivers:
AA: Application
AF: Application
Image: High Quality
Vsync: On
Gamma Correct AA: On
Transparency AA: Multisampling
Triple Buffering: On (though it doesn't seem to work in FEAR)
Negative LOD: Clamp

Other than those, I am at a higher resolution and I have AF all to 16x except lighting to minimum, not volumetric, which is at max. I tested in this one spot in the game that I noticed I had an excpetionally low framerate just in that one area.

800x600, no AA or AF, soft shadows off, medium texture resolution, everything else at max. It's the only way to keep the minimums above 60fps.

Everything cranked up to high including aa and soft shadows and running at the highest resolution it will let me select. I have the dell 2005fpw but it doenst let me select the resolution for wide screen.

Most on medium, some on max.
4xAA

I hit auto-detect for this, the sad thing is, even when it auto-deteced these med/max settings the game STILL feels choppy. F.E.A.R is the first game I played where even after you use auto-detect it still chops.
