FEAR Combat

I downloaded and installed FEAR Combat and patched it. went to play and it crashed on me

uninstalled and reinstalled without patching but it won't launch...no errors, no hourglass, nothing...wtf???

doesn't even appear to start a process at all either.

ok, scratch that. i tried to launch the 3rd time and it gives me the error that it has encountered a problem. the game still doesn't even load though.

any help would be appreciated. i have no idea why it won't run. the full game ran fine, but this won't.

I remember it not working for me a while back because of some file windows updated. Removing that update solved it for me, but I thought they fixed that by now.

EDIT: it was a problem with running kaspersky (or aol sheild) and the windows update KB917422. People have reported uninstalling either kaspersky or that update fixed their issue, but again this is an old problem and I thought it was fixed on MS' end.

i forgot about that! yeah, i had that problem with other games before and i remember getting a patch to that update.

i recently reformatted and did all the windows updates though.

thats what it was. found the patch for that windows update and FEAR works now.
