I really enjoyed FEAR and Perseus Mandate (still enjoying Perseus Mandate actually), look forward to it if they keep the gameplay so fun 🙂

Yep, I'm actually playing through Perseus Mandate again right now.

FEAR was a great game, but it also had some of the best graphics at the time when it released. FEAR would not be the same game if not for the advanced lighting and other particle effects it pioneered. The "graphics don't matter" argument only works to say that good graphics can't fix a bad game.

Didn't a very similar thing happen before FarCry 2 came out? People posting screenshots and saying it looked terrible, but when the final game came out it looked just fine?

I think we should wait until the final release is out before passing judgement.

Edit: hmm, that whole thread was a disaster, so maybe it is not relevant here: http://forums.anandtech.com/me..._key=y&keyword1=farcry

I got Far Cry 2 with my GTX 260 216 from the egg. In the package. In some places the graphics look really, really good. I run them at the max levels on my 24" but the character models look really, really out dated and like they were built for consoles. Also, not everyone has bad skin so it really gets me that they try to go overboard to show you how good skin texture by making everyone have pot holes and acne scars.

Far Cry 2 is beautiful but I couldn't play more than about 15 minutes. F.E.A.R. with outdated graphics > FarCry2 with the latest and greatest ANY day

Similar. I played FC2 for about an hour. Then never again. F.E.A.R. was tight.

Man, that video is disgustingly incredible. I really can't wait.

You guys think a Q6600 and 8800GT will be able to handle 1600x1200 at max settings?

Graphics need to be good enough to accomplish the desired gameplay mechanics and artistic effects. I think when it releases it will have graphics on par with the best games out there. If we are lucky it might even take a swipe at best graphics available at the time.

From the current videos it seems like there is enough graphics horsepower in FEAR 2 to maintain immersiveness. I think there is more risk in the game falling short of the graphics than the graphics falling short of the game.

I was worried that was going to be a fan-made "scare" website. 🙂

Very cool site! Gotta check it out further when I get home.

I loved FEAR 1 and all expansions.
Would have got this if the demo didnt suck ass. They traded gameplay for graphics and that is a deal breaker for me.
Perhaps if the expanion can be found dirt cheap with the original game I may pick it up, just for a quick lulz.
