FDNY & NYPD

Since it's Friday and I haven't posted enough stupid crap this week, I'd like to pose a question to all of you. I'm used to seeing FDNY and NYPD on bumper stickers and hearing members use those abbreviations but why don't they use the same pattern?

I've become so accustomed to hearing both that i'm used to it but can any of you, with your expert opinions, think of a reason why they didn't use the same format?

Because if they both started with NY, they couldn't make those clever hats that let you show your support for the NYPD, FDNY and NY Yankees at the same time
