Ok, everyone and their mother used to use the FCKGW.....key for windows XP when it was first released. Was there ever an explaination of who leaked this famous key? My curiosity must be satisfied! Its driving me crazy

"Dubbed the "devils0wn" key, this particular key came with the first warez release of the final version of Windows XP. This version was supplied by a group calling themselves "devils0wn" 35 days before the official release on October 25, 2001. It is a volume license key (VLK) leaked from one of Microsoft's customers, rumored to be from a PC maker like IBM or Dell. Unlike most versions of Windows XP and other recent Microsoft products, volume-licensed versions do not require product activation. This made the key desirable for unauthorized users of Windows XP."

As do I, actually thats what made me think of it and wanting to know where it came from. Probably somehting uninteresting like china, but I'm hoping it involves something cool.

Heh-heh, I still have a copy of XP Professional that has that magical code on it...

Given to me by a friend of my son, I never installed it....my ethics don't permit such things...but I STILL have the dammed thing. 😀

(I have a properly licensed and legal copy of XP that I bought when I FINALLY upgraded from Windows 98. I skipped 2000 and ME)

Hah! Just looked and I have a CDR with that code written in sharpie on it too. All my computers have legit OS-es, dunno why I have the CDR. Probably for the lulz.

I can type that code by memory still. Just like I have my Half Life key memorized still. Retarded huh? At one point I remembered my Windows 98SE key too but that was when I used to dual boot XP and 98SE back when gaming on 98SE still ruled.

I want to say that this version came out even earlier than the 35 days before Oct 25,2001. I remember people getting their hands on the Devils0wn copy during the 9/11 crisis.

Edit: Yup, Aug 28, 2001 was when it came out. I remember Win XP came a few days after my birthday. I woke up on my bday hoping someone released it already, but it turned out I had to wait a few days.
