The government owns the spectrum and leases it to broadcasters. Why is everyone up and arms about "censorship" on public airwaves when broadcasters are using leased airwaves?

My main issue is that they treat different broadcasters differently. That, and there's no clear rules on what is indecent and what isn't.

They are bureacracy and not exactly representative of the public. Too much government. I'm buying a house on Friday and NOT getting cable tv. Cable internet, maybe, not tv.

The thing I love is that it is -okay- for CNN to show a US troop frag an Iraqi on TV throughout various times of the day while children could see and thats okay but a natural thing like say a bewbie is "wrong" and a few explicit "bad" words are the end of the world

In what context? You can't broadcast more than, I'm not sure what it is.. either a certain power(watts), or certain distance, or maybe both.

The government most certainly does not "own" the spectrum. It has simply been entrusted by the people to mediate the use of the spectrum in a manner that serves public interest.

Well first of all, CNN is not subject to FCC regulations so that is a non-point.

Compare these transcripts and tell me why one party was fined and one wasn't

If you're going to have a "first of all," shouldn't you have a second of all?

So the FCC won't let me be
or let me be me, so let me see
They try to shut me down on MTV
But it feels so empty, without me

Second of all, Americans are hung up with sex while Europeans are hung up with violence. You can see plenty of bewbies on tv over there but you won't be seeing movies like Terminator.

Better? Just didn't finish my thought.

Cable television channels are only censored because their owners don't want to lose their advertisers.

HUH?
My friend you are mistaken.

OTA Broadcasters (like my employer) do not lease spectrum from the FCC..
We are licensed to use it.
