what's worse is that most people don't seem to care simply because they don't like stern. there's lots of those idiots right here in our midst.

How are they any different from the idiots who ONLY care because they like Stern? Including Stern himself.

That just isn't true. Howard has been talking about all kinds of issues with regard to the Bush administration, including a lot of talk about stem cell research and gay marriage. His motivations are not limited to saving his own skin. While I am a Stern fan, I would be saying the same things if it were Rush Limbaugh on the chopping block.

From what I understand, Stern was generally supportive of Bush before he started getting fined. As soon as the crackdowns began, Stern became more and more anti-Bush and openly supportive of Kerry.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you are saying, but Stern getting fined is nothing new. Stern, AFAIK, has racked up more FCC fines than anyone else and started getting fined from almost day one in NY. He might have racked up fines while in DC but I can't remember.

Lethal

EDIT: And Freedom of Speech is not absolute people. To borrow the popular example, you can't yell "fire" in a crowded theater.

The way Stern tells it, the fines only started coming after he stopped supporting Bush. The whole gay amendment thing really turned Stern against Bush.

Actually, this is the first time Stern has been fined in about 10 years.

I listen to the show just about everyday and he talked bad about Bush a while before the crackdowns began. The whole Janet Jackson thing was just the situation they needed to trigger their insanity.

it's not like they're fining bono or anything, just a warning basically. i may not agree with the FCC on this kind of thing, but stern knew full well what he was getting himself into and i don't exactly pity him.

Okay, what was he getting himself into? What did he say to get fined? If you don't know, it seems to me your skepticism is premature to say the least.

Don,

Your blaming the wrong group....for years Liberals and democrats have been looking for ways to regulate talk radio because they have a serious beef with the conservative programming such as Limbaugh and Hannity, in fact talk radio is one of the only media outlets that has a good number of conservative shows...only recently has Fox news been introduced to broadcast television, and there are very few conservative rags out there when compared to the many liberally slanted high volume mags and newspapers....

Stern is their golden cow, their scape goat....the Libs are sacrificing stern to set the precedent to attack conservative talk radio...

This is, respectfully, a really silly theory with no basis in fact from anything I have ever seen. As I said above, there are plenty of Democrats (I wouldn't call them liberals), including Lieberman (a closet Republican if there is one), who have been very active in controlling the airwaves, but the notion that it is tied to some kind of anti-conservative radio agenda is just stupid and paranoid IMO. I would be entertained to see even one credible source (i.e., not Newsmax or its ilk) that would document ANY effort to censor conservative politically-oriented shows, absent some "indecent" content.

I remain skeptical of the notion of a "liberal media" (if anything, the independent surveys of content by academics that scan for politically-charged words in broadcast media have indicated a conservative bias, but there is plenty of sloppy research data on both the liberal and conservative sides of the issue and little if any reliable data), but even more skeptical of the idea that the tendency toward "liberally slanted" media outlets has anything to do with the activities of liberal politicians.

For my part, I want to see free airwaves, and, as I have said in response to this SAME post by you in about five threads, I oppose any political action by anyone on either side of the aisle who moves to censor free expression.

fvck howard, i could careless. he deserves what he gets.

Now Bono?

man fck that sh*t. BONO'S DA MAAAN!

Woohoo! U2 4eva Baby!! Rock on!

you idiot, this not only covers howard but it sets a precedence for the future of broadcast radio and tv.

Some people dont understand that your opinion of someone has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not fines should be levied against them.
They see things like this as a way to attack someone they just dont like, regardless of whether its right.

These same people usually get bitten by these things somewhere down the road. Like Mr. "bono da man" here....

What the world needs know is definitely a few more sheep.

What specific "utterences" are they charging him for? I've been told he avoids the "7 words", so what did he do to get fined?

That's the burning question. There is no clear defination of 'indecent'. It's basically whoever's on the FCC panel deciding for us, in their own opinion, what they feel is indecent. Bottom line, it's government racateering.

I think it was "The Red Sox suck dick" or something like that!
