Obviously needs to be fixed but I'll take an edge case error that may cause safety systems to not deploy as designed any day over something like GM or Takata that will actively kill you.

The good news is the driver should be alerted to this problem by a instrument cluster warning light.…

So don't ignore your vehicle's warning lights…important safety tip, thanks Egon.

Ever notice how many dummy lights are lit in other people's cars? Yeah, people tend to ignore them until the car stops running.

Just a guess, but it is a software flaw and should be easy to correct with a firmware reflash. Much better than the Takata Shrapnel through the head problem.

Then there's the other end where people run to the dealer every time an idiot light comes on. I'm pretty sure they rigged our engineer's light to come on when they need to make a boat payment. The money he's pissed away on that thing would have bought him a decent lower end used car. It's approaching 200k miles. Electric tape is a perfectly acceptable solution for something like that. Or maybe just ask me to look at it. Some things matter, and some things don't. I can fix a lot of the stuff that matters.
