Why don't you read up on Russian investigative agencies. They are also always investigating Putin's political opponents and using those investigations to interfere in politics to get their preferred candidate elected.
It's not about investigating, it's about leaking and interfering in an election on behalf of your preferred candidate. If you are investigating, fine, investigate, then report to prosecutors to indict or don't indict, but to release innuendo to interfere in an election and irreparably harm people who are innocent until proven guilty is unacceptable and should be punishable by termination. It's imperative that the US cleans the FBI of those who are leaking, interfering in elections, or breaking the agency's own rules. Starting with the director.

In this case, men and women in government are investigating those in power, NOT their opponents. Removing them for that is as close to Russia as one can get without actually throwing the offending agents off roofs.
