FBI FYI

One of the segments of the film talked about the J. Edgar Hoover era. They said one thing that really surprised me that I had never heard of before.

Apparently Hoover decided that Martin Luther King was his enemy, and even sent letters to his wife talking about Kings infidelity, and sent messages to him suggesting the only way out would be suicide.

Crazy!

Overall the film was pretty interesting.

that wouldnt surprise me at all. they said after hoover died and they had to release all his files, they found stuff from many illegal wiretaps and such on people like sinatra, lennon and other public figures. i think this was a big deal back then, but i guess it was before my time

I think they probably have lots of audio tapes in their archives, maybe even a video tape or two. 😉

Yeah, Hoover had thought that there were some communist elements seeping into King's movement. I'm not sure why it got so personal though.

Hoover was a real whacked out piece of work. They don't come much more screwed than him. A racist, an overzealous anti-communist who believed in a strong federal government unemcumbered by the Constitution, and a cross-dressing homophobe. Freud would've had a field day...

there are LOTS of audio tapes. LOTS. Some presidents insisted on having their phone convos recorded. Not surprisingly, Hoover & his mess pop all over the place during that time period.

If you want some really wild stuff, check out LBJ's conversations w/like McNamera (sp) or rob kennedy on Vietnam.
