FBI Declares War on The Scooter Store

Approximately 150 federal and state law enforcement agents launched a massive raid on one of the biggest perpetrators of government fraud in America: The Scooter Store.

FBI agents would not provide details on any crimes or possible charges behind the search warrant, but 1,200 employees of the company were escorted from the headquarters in New Braunfels, Texas, on Wednesday, and were not allowed back into today, as investigators continue to dig for clues.

Police also searched a related management company that The Scooter Store's sales records.

The nation's largest provider of single-person electric vehicles and power chairs is the target of a federal investigation, probably because many of the people who ride around their "personal mobility devices" don't actually need them.

People that need a scooter can't get one while tons that don't need one get Cadillac Models.

Yep, typical of the U.S. now.

Once you sit down in one of those scooters you never get back up again. They're terrible and make people into invalids.

Does this mean I won't get my EV Rider Royale 4 Wheel Scooter

This is a symptom of a non-free market health care system. Why wouldn't you get a scooter even if you didn't need one. The government (medicaid) is paying for it.

I am actually pretty interested in this case, I want to know the reason behind the raid.

See post above yours.

The store was generating false paperwork as justification for a person needing one.

Because the intended market was for seniors and it is difficult to determine without serious observation of the applicant if such a unit is needed; paperwork was usually rubber stamped.

Where does it say that people who need scooters can't get them? In fact, the article says the company apparently worked hard to get scooters even for those who had already been declared ineligible. They certainly got bunches for people who DIDN'T need them, but there is no indication that people who needed them couldn't get them.

Not surprised, every other commercial durign daytime TV was for these scammers. "We'll get you a FREEEEEEEEE scooter from Medicare!!!! We'll do all the (phony) paperwork."

Rot in hell assholes

um,... we are a free market health care system. just because people abuse the safety net we have in place doesnt mean the whole system is subsidized.

I'm shocked that citizens and businesses are exploiting a free give-away government program. It's astounding that people are getting free stuff from the government and other people are making money on it.

No kids, this is a symptom of insurance fraud. Not even in the most libertopian delusion does a "free market" prevent fraud.

Now that they're involved they feel entitled to raid and destroy the business. Bravo.

Bullshit. It's a fat ass government program that a private company and private citizens exploited to get free stuff. Having progressives like you absolve government in any responsibility for the program is ludicrous

Been looking for a secondary chair for my dad used online incase his one from the VA breaks down he wont be trapped stuck in bed. I see lots of new unused chairs on craigslist for 1-12k, and always figured some of those are from people that get them just to resale. There has to be a lot of fraud going on with their business model.
