Most modems come with a Fax package.

If you do not have/use a modem, then you will have to get an internet account. Look for threads on this that have popped up every month on this issue.

If you are running XP:

Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Add/Remove Windows Components, find Fax Services and check it. The process is similar with other versions of Windows.

I am using WinFAX Pro 10 but I believe it is taking too much system resources.

The freebie programs that come packaged with modems are likely to only lead you to frustration. Winfax Pro 10.0 is likely the best solution there is for sending and receiving faxes via a modem. I used version 9.0 for a couple of years and I'll be picking up 10 as soon as I can scrape together enough cash. It is highly customizable and a really well done application. If you want one that really works, get Winfax Pro.

Are you running Win98? If so, PM me and I'll make you a good deal on version 9.0.

Some of the freebe programs are better/easier to use than others.

I have a copy of a package from Smith-Micro that woorks well for our needs. Makes sending documents just like printing them.
The address book setup is similar to what OUtlook uses and the address book can be exported to DBF files if needed.

Each to their own poison.
