I've got a fax modem setup using windows faxing. It recieves faxes without a problem like 80-90% of the time. Sometimes people try faxing like 20 times and it'll never go. It's and intel 537 Fax Modem. Is there a point in getting another modem? Any ideas why it would work so well most of the time and other times it just won't?

Do you have another telephone/answering machine on the same line that interfere with the fax modem? If not, maybe you have a driver issue or outdated driver.

If the line is ok then the modem is probably having issues unless you have an answering machine or voicemail on the same line. Either of those services will interfere with receiving faxes if you don't have them set up right. New modems are pretty inexpensive at newegg if you should need a new one. I would recommend one of the zoom models but make sure that it isn't a software modem, you want all onboard hardware doing the legwork. I recently tried one of those new usr 56k fax/modems in the machine I built my parents and it was doa and I wasn't impressed. It was nothing like the 56k usr that I have in my machine.
