Madden was indeed a unique character.

Was? Is he dead?

*checks* No, he's still alive. Overweight and 74 years old though, I have a feeling he's not long for earth. He'll definitely be missed and remembered as a true original guy though.

Farve was a hell of a player (hated him as a chicago fan..but love him as a football fan). but yes its time to hang it up and enjoy being a dad and just enjoy life.

Good. He already tainted one record (single season sacks). Lost all respect for him on that play...

I still think Madden and Sumerall were the best broadcasting duo.

Him reading the phone book:

"Well you see, ya got this guy here at 54..BOOM!..3 WHACK!! Ya know, these guys might have phone numbers, but Brett Favre had the best phone number ever."
Hell ya they were, I don't care what obvious things Madden said, they make current game announcers feel BORING. CBS is literally painful to listen to games, atleast Fox has Troy. After CBS Troy is like a gift to listen to again.

He has a head injury.

Bye, bye, Favre.
You became a joke these last few years.
I am not sorry to see you go.
You will not play next week and the Commish will say he can't suspend you since you are not playing, and you can retire with a "clean record"

Yep. And now apparently Gruden has a super deep raspy voice even thought it was never like that before? C'mon....

Then there is the NFL Network's Thursday night games. I would rather listen to Miley Cirus and Katy Perry do duets with no autotune.

It's just a flesh wound, he'll be back. ;)

Fwiw, Favre (re-)earned my respect by not taking one bogus snap to keep his streak alive. Whatever else can be said about him, he's one physically tough mofo.

this. that tackle was brutal, though, considering everything going on with him. I couldn't imagine him coming back as soon as that happened.

he was MVP caliber last year, and one "decent" season with the Jets.

You obviously don't watch the NFL, or you're a stupid fanboy.

Another absolute legend in my book. I'd pay good money to listen to that guy read the phone book.

Remember when he raced the blimp in his bus? Dude was hilarious!

I really hope they figure out that head-in-a-jar technology from Futurama ASAP--I don't think anyone but Madden/Sumeral should be calling games.

Though I do like Michaels/Fouts.

but sitting next to Sumerall all those years, the vapors from Pat's briney breath have done wonders to preserve the Madden. He's probably gained 10 years just sitting in that booth.

LOL! No seriously...I just cracked up thinking about Madden's head in a jar calling games.

I think Futurama actually does have a Sumerall head-in-a-jar for football games, don't they? maybe even Madden?

I rarely watch the show, but I seem to remember that.

They were fricking brilliant in The Replacements. (huge guilty pleasure of mine. I will watch it whenever it is on TV)

:D

Favre inactive for Vikings' finale

Brett Favre will not play against the Lions because of a concussion, likely ending the QB's 20-year career.
This time, stay retired and enjoy your first ballot vote into the HoF Brett...

I think he WANTED to retire last year...but the Vikings threw so much money at him that he couldn't say no.
Hell, for $16 Million, I'd go out and take that kind of beating for one season!
