in my case, orbit@home is my favourite.

i do realise all the benefits of finding cures for cancer/alzheimers, etc and i hope they do.
but if a rather large rock falls on our heads, it's all for nothing 🙁

mind you, that's always as long as they can get their finger out and find the damn thing first!! 🙂

There is a math one that I used to do, but I can't remember which one it is anymore. Simple little program, no BOINC, doesn't download credits. Just crunches. I always like that one, but can't find it again. (and I'm sure someone will post it next post and make me look dumb. 😀 ). After that, I don't really have any favorite projects. I crunch them all equally, sans SETI. I'm still bitter about then shutting SETI classic down, so I've been very reluctant to start SETI-BOINC up again.

EDIT: 3x+1 was a favorite, simply because I learned about it in class, and was able to tell the professor about the project, and BOINC, and TAS, etc. That was interesting.

DNET's RC5 mainly because it ran on older PCs, it was my first project, we had lots of races and fun, and the client was very well written.

I liked SETI Classic as well, for the races and TeAm challenges. 🙂

SOB was fun getting the TeAm to #1, client was easy to set up. 🙂

I'm not running a project now, but when I start up again, it will definitely be with one or more that are helping find cures and do research on cancer and other diseases.
 
Bah, I missed the subject summary. Benefits for the program that I can't remember the name of: they may not be real world, but the mathematical projects do have their purpose, as I have seen in the classroom. But honestly I don't think a project would exist if it didn't have some value to someone. I like the idea of SETI and F@H being successful, but I have no clue if they ever will be.

Maybe I should just change my favorite projects to any that I can beat Assimilator1 in. :laugh:

ROFL.... I was so close in the F@H race, but he usually ends up beating me. hehe I can't complain though, it has been crazy fun racing him in every project lately.
 
Currently, SIMAP is the most important for medical research. They catalogue proteins so reseachers can search the DB by various characteristics.

Orbit@Home and AQUA@Home are also my favorites.

3x+1 was a good one, too.

That's one. The other one is PrimeGrid, because I'm a math geek, and because I've made a tradition of finding at least one reportable (meaning in the top 5000 in the world) prime every year since 1997. PrimeGrid is making it easy!

FMC, were you thinking of ECCp-109? That was a favorite of mine, partly because it was open-source and I was able to double the speed of the code. 🙂

I think it is SOB. I'm going to have to install it and see. I have some machines that won't run BOINC now for some reason, so I'm going to run that program when I find it.
 
Been doing fah on and off. It was one of the first medical related ones I felt was for a good cause. I haven't looked into what other medical ones out there are though. Tho, what's the difference between rosetta and fah? They both are protein folding right? I'll have to look more at SIMAP too
 
I used to do RC5, years ago on my 486. Now I mostly do SoB. Math seems worthwhile, to me. At least moreso than searching for aliens. 😛 (Hey, any sufficiently-advanced civilization would be using subspace communication channels anyways, not RF energy.)

I got into F@H, primarily as a fun exercise to build a dedicated F@H box. Losing a video card wasn't so fun though.

I might switch from SoB to PrimeGrid.

Back to main Q, SETI my 1st + always liked the idea of proving ET life, DPAD because I'm fascinated by that level of physics (though don't always gets it lol!), F@H because of the (hopefully) near to medium term health care benefits.
But I'd also like to do planequest,Orbit@H & R@H.
 
I've been doing F@H because 1) GPU Client 2) Stanford was my school of choice 3) I found it interesting and wanted to help TA.
I've been on Rosetta@Home and F@H lately because much of my family has health issues, including cancer and other diseases, and I would like to progress the medical understanding of protein folding a little more. Plus, F@H is just awesome.

But I haven't been on BOINC in over a year and my power bills have caused me to stop crunching all together.

Well, FMC and Assimilator1, guess what? Once I get my computer up again, let's do a little F@H rematch, eh? We'll see who tops the competition. Considering I was out of the Holiday Race

Sounds like we have a race on our hands! And I love Muon--so easy to setup and run. No need for multiple things running... hehehehe.

Rematch in F@H? Or in Muon? I like muon because it's so much easier, although running muon takes a lot of ya'lls power away since the GPUs don't crunch. Hmmm. Maybe we'll do both. 😀
 
My favorite projects are 2 of the protein related projects: F@H and ps3/GPU grid. Protein structure/function is my passion and proteins are indeed the "machines of life". 🙂

They both also use cell (ps3) and GPU processors!😛

I also enjoy spending time on many other projects with with my fellow TAS members!:thumbsup:

That's awesome. Another thing close to my heart. Both sides of my family have Alzheimer's and also, I'm a SAMmy and the Alzheimer's Foundation is the charity of our choice.

EDIT: I think we should stick to one project for the race (stats would be crazy if we run two projects), but it doesn't have to be F@H. As long as I can stretch my GPU muscle a bit. 🙂

orbit seems to be in limbo at the minute.
haven't heard anything from pasquale for months. and still finishing off the original batch of units they sent out 🙁
not sure what's going on considering he got funding from nasa.
maybe he's in barbados 🙂 (and that's another joke 😀 )

i'm game if FMC is 😛
 
I really don't have a favorite since S@H classic shut down. I run SoB & DPAD because they're both so dial-up friendly.
Maybe it's time to finally get a BOINC account.
