Chrono Trigger is the best one IMO.
Xenogears is #1 in term of storyline, strangely no one mentioned it in this thread so far.

Best MMORPG = Ragnarok Online.

Oh, as for books.

George R.R. Martin's series.

Robert Jordans "Wheel of Time" (up till book 5 was outstanding, now I just want him to finish).

J.R.R. Tolkein of course.

Terry Brooks Shannara books (probably "The Sword of Shannara" series is my favorite in this setting).

David Eddings "The Belgariad" was my favorite when I was younger (read the series 20 times), but I haven't read it in about 7 years or so.

Did you know that the Ultima series games are about 20 years old? If i remember correctly, we were playing the early ultima on an Apple IIe. Then I think Ultima III, IV on a PC (pre pentium days).

Also one of my favorite book series is The Belgariad and the Mallorean by David Eddings.
