There are no rappers that start with "Lil'" that would be on my list of greatest rapper or album of all time.

You needs to get crunk and get just *unpronounceable* cut it and be bobbin' yo' head and *unpronounceable*... CAN YA DIG IT?

Notorious BIG - Life After Death (don't care for Hypnotize or Mo Money, there are other tracks much much better on there that never got to video)

The production on that is so crazy and underrated.

That is easily, very easily, one of the best produced albums in the last 10 years.
dan the automator laid it down on that album. i like his work, especially the handsome boy modeling school albums.

imo though, im really liking the production on the foreign exchange album. its so incredible how this album was composed. a dj from amsterdam sent his beats to phonte of little brother over aim/email here in the states. he then got him and his crew to rap over the instrumentals and sent them back (phonte didnt even own a computer, had to use a friends). and how did they connect in the first place? on a online message board. i believe they had their 17-track cd released in stores before they actually spoke/saw each other face-to-face.

When I first listened to it I had heard nothing like it before; it's still a pretty crazy album.

I will see your Illmatic and raise you a Reasonable Doubt.

Honestly, the impact both of these albums had was amazing.

Also, A Tribe Called Quests album was standard listening in the tri-state area.

There's really too many to name.

But personally, for me the one to have the most effect on me was Reasonable Doubt, followed closely by 36 Chambers and Illmatic.

I have a Reasonable Doubt and yes it is a very good album. I also have both Midnight Marauders and Low End Theory and both are great albums. 36 chanbers is also great.

I said it in the rapper thread--rap is about flow and beat. Its not about being political or fighting social problems. Thats a hip hop thing.

So many tracks on that album (Life After Death) are great. Some have sick beats, while others have crazy lyrics and flow (Notorious Thugs comes to mind) that no other rapper can compare to.

Some guys like Twista can rap really fast but its not a flow. It doesn't have any unf to it that goes well. Even Shock G (Tupac's friend) said in the Tupac documentary that it was all forced out and had no flow from Tupac (and you notice it if you listen).

IMO A truly perfect album can be listened to easily from end to end with no skipping necessary. With that in mind, I can't decide between the following (off the top of my head, in no particular order):

Nas - Illmatic (1994)
A Tribe Called Quest - Midnight Marauders (1994)
Notorious B.I.G. - Ready to Die (1994)
Wu-Tang Clan - Enter the 36 Chambers (1993)
Raekwon the Chef - Only Built 4 Cuban Linx (1994)

And honorable mention to:

Ghostface Killah - Ironman (1996)
Redman - Muddy Waters (1996)
LL Cool J - Bigger And Deffer (1987)
Busta Rhymes - Extinction Level Event (1997)
KRS-ONE - KRS-ONE (1995)
Jay-Z - Reasonable Doubt (1996)
Jay-Z - In My Lifetime, Vol. 1 (1997)
Nas - It was Written (1996)

Plus a couple sleeper selections:

Fat Joe - Jealous Ones Envy (1995)
Erick Sermon - Double or Nothing (1995)
Redman - Dare Iz a Darkside (1994)
Pete Rock - Soul Survivor (1998)

I can't honestly say there's been too many underground album candidates that are 100% on point from end to end. Too many dope singles to list, but the album seems much more elusive... Possiblilities IMO would be Company Flow's "Funcrusher Plus", Breez Evahflowin's "Pro-Files EP", "Akrobatik's Balance"... Little Brother's "The Listening" is up there...

Actually here's a REAL hot album you probably never heard: Rasco's "Escape From Alcatraz". VERY solid product right there. As a matter of fact, most Planet Asia/Rasco/Cali Agents stuff is tight.
