<< I'm just kind of curious as to what punk or ska bands you guys like.

Personally, I think Goldfinger, The Ataris, and Saves the Day are good punk bands.
For ska, I like Goldfinger's ska songs, Distorted Penguins, and Five Iron Frenzy.

I'm looking to expand my music library =)

The Ataris are good, so is Goldfinger. The Descendants, Bad Religion, NoFx, Pennywise, and a few others I really like.

Is Saves the Day really a punk band? To me they sound more poppy than anything.

GREAT BANDS WITH HORNS: Less Than Jake, Goldfinger, Sublime, The Rx Bandits, Spring Heeled Jack, Slow Gherkin, The Mad Caddies, Catch 22, One Cool Guy, Professor Plum, Adam's Not Funny, The Superspecs, Hepcat, Inspector 7, Skavoovie and the Epitones, Big D and the Kids Table, The Hippos, Face First, Potshot, Save Ferris, What's Your Problem Brian.

and the greatest band of all time - TENACIOUS D

no, I don't like ska/punk/rock band with horns 😉 If you know any of the bands after Sublime, feel free to gimmie a PM if you desire.

If we limit this to current acts. . .

RANCID!
Strike Anywhere
Bigwig
Coheed and Cambria (cd coming out on EVR in a couple months. they are going to be huge.)
Thrice
Good Clean Fun
Hot Water Music
Stretch Arm Strong
American Nightmare
Death By Stereo
Bad Religion (have you heard the new cd yet?)
The GC5

yea i dunno, i think they're a cross between pop punk and emo or something. def. not straight pop punk or anything.

for those who like distorted penguins... is their cd any better than the mp3s? the mp3s are really really crappy quality. if i'm going to get their cd, i want to make sure the sound quality is better.

They used to be more punk/emo. Stay What You Are is way more poppy, but easily their best work IMO.

Okay, because I saw them on Conan, and they reminded me more of a Weezer type band. They rock though!

Except their songs aren't all simple and boring as hell 🙂

Wow...no one flamed people for liking blink-182 and/or Sum-41...or better yet, Greenday! :Q

Hmm...lessee...New Found Glory is kewl...tho I liked them even before they got their "indirect shine" from the Real World on MTV...

I used to like Greenday...Dookie is still a quality CD...
I love the Offspring, even AFTER "Ixnay on the Hombre"...that bad?
I HATE Blink-182, SR-71, and the majority of "numbered pop-punk bands"...I don't quite hate Sum-41 yet...

That's about it...for now 😀

Can ya'll make a good "punk rawk primer" track list of really good songs for me to "expand my horizons" with? You and Morpheus will help me greatly 🙂

What was the name of the group made up of members from the Clash and English Beat? I think Joe Strummer might have played for them

bah, you shouldn't be lumping blink in there as well, they were more or less the ones that started out the numbering crap. blink actually had really good music before they got famous btw.

Some of my fav ska bands are:
Mighty Mighty Bosstones
Pie Tasters
Mad Caddies
Hepcat
Skeletones
Reel Big Fish
and Don't forget about Fishbone

I don't own the cd, but I don't really think the quality is any better 🙁. Some of the songs I have are off mp3.com taken off the cds.
But yeah, they kick ass.

ah goddamn it. i would really want to get a cd if the quality was better, but some of their songs are so blurry! anarchy waltz is like the only clear non-live one i can find on audiogalaxy.

No Ramones?
No Talking Heads?
No WHO?
No Sex Pistols?
No Blondie?
You Young Ones (like the TV show from Australia) don't know any of the bands that started punk?
That's like listenign to the Beatles, but not knowign who Buddy Holly is.

i know all those bands, they're just not my favorites 🙂

Another early SKA Band..Madness

<< No Talking Heads? >>

Wow, I don't know if they can be classified as Punk or even New Wave. More like Art/Intellectual Andy Warhol Music🙂

How about Velvet Underground?

Blink 182's first album was good (cheshire cat), and some of their other stuff is good. The only time I usually listen to blink is when I'm drumming along with some of the songs because the drum beats are fun..

yea! the worst part of blink are the fans that don't like cheshire cat (or even worse, have never heard of it)

Got any early live versions of Psycho Killer? It is almost the definition of punk. Their sound changed quit a bit after that. I will find a bootleg with it for you.

A couple other bands that I like and I didn't see meantioned are Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, Wax, Face First, Mustard Plug, and The Hippos.

Jimmy Eat World and Mest are cool, even though a lot of their songs are popish.
