While they are not necessarily the best thing for you nutritionally, I think they are unavoidable if you are a busy person and want to have a high protein meal every 2-3 hours.

I have tried Supreme Protein, MHP Probolic, Titan, Pure Protein, Dymatize Elite, EAS, Nitrotech.

Supreme Protein was my all around favorite for a while until I tried Dymatize Elite Brownie bar - just awesome. Titan was also really good, but less protein and not as high quality protein. Didn't care much for the others.

KoolDrew, I think, posted his recipe for homemade protein bars in the past. If you search for it, I bet you could find it.

More protein helps our health to grow faster and be active any time. I choose more protein for my health as per my diet physician.

Thanks,
Mark

I don't eat bars anymore but when I used to, I typically bought the Met-RX Big 100 bars because you could find them at almost every gas station and grocery store... might as well have been candy. Apple cinnamon, cookies and cream, fudge brownie...mmmmm.

I love the VPX Zero Impact bars. Pumpkin and Coconut are my favs. They have a very good nutritional profile too and aren't just glorified candybars.

I like the Met-RX Big 100's as well. I typically stay away from the Colossal ones, though, and go with the regular Big 100's (chocolate chip cookie dough is my personal favorite).

I obviously prefer "real" food, but being a doctoral student rotating between campus and three different hospital/clinic practicum sites, I don't often have the option to sit down and cook, or even just pick up something quick like Subway.

Nice, I'm gonna give that a try. After doing this 6-meals-per-day thing for a few years I've become a protein bar conniseur (?sp), but never tried those.

I hear ya about the time to cook issue...luckily I work at home so the fridge is not far away. I don't keep much junk food around because if I do I'll go crazy on it.

I've been munching on Clif Builder's bars and they've been pretty good. 20g protein, and they don't taste awful (at least the peanut butter flavor).

Not exactly the best one for you because they don't have a lot of vitamins the other have. But I just ate a PowerBar recovery Peanut Butter Carmel Crisp. The texture was a little odd, but it tasted very close to a Whatchamacallit to me. Not much of an after taste either. About an hour later I tried a Powerbar Fruit Smooth Creamy Citrus bar. Had a weird graininess to it, but was pretty good. Was a lot like Taffy, and the citrus flavor was nice. I just started on a work out kick last week so I'm trying a few different bars every day until I find which ones I like the best.

Agree with CoinOperatedBoy, had a Clif Bar Friday, it was more like a granola bar dipped in chocolate. I had the Chocolate Chip and it was tasty, I think once I've tried all the bars my store has I'll go back to the Clif and pick up some more.

Yeah, even the regular Clif bars are decent. They have less protein than the Builder's line, but they're cheaper and still have lots of good stuff in there. I've tried a few different protein bars, but I keep coming back to Clif. They're also usually pretty cheap on Amazon if you buy a couple boxes at a time.

I used to horde Promax bars, but now only eat the Big 100s and Pure Protein bars occasionally when Kroger has them on sale.

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll have to try those. I too rely almost exclusively on protein bars for food when traveling or otherwise on the go and unable to prepare meals ahead of time.

I normally go with the MET-Rx Big 100 Colossals because they have a reasonable nutritional profile and can be purchased fairly cheaply at Walmart, but they aren't the greatest in the world and sometimes I get tired of them. Having some other brands to work into the mix will be good, provided they aren't too expensive.

Here are some others I've tried in the past:

http://www.dpsnutrition.net/get_by_164.htm

The tri-o-plex bars taste decent, but are extremely dry (disclaimer: I haven't eaten one of these in a few years - maybe they've improved on the dryness). I found it difficult to finish one without having to stop and take a drink every so often. Their nutritional profile is OK. The majority of the protein comes from soy, which is a negative IMO.

http://www.dpsnutrition.net/get_item_as108.htm

These taste very good and have a good nutritional profile, but they are relatively expensive for what you get (as pretty much all of ASTs supplements are). They also upset my stomach sometimes.

http://www.dpsnutrition.net/get_by_114.htm

The Detour bars aren't very good. They have a very "chemical/artificial" taste, and their nutritional profile isn't very good. Some (maybe all) varieties even contain trans fats. It's basically a candy bar with a serving of protein.

These taste incredible: http://www.prosource.net/product_details.aspx?item_guid=03647CA7-EB47-49C9-813E-AAC9FF5FBF0F. I've tried the fudge brownie. Tastes like chocolate lava cake.

I need to find these in a B&M store, I'm interested in trying the Peanut Butter, I LOOOOOVE PB! And the the few protein bars I've tried with it on the label, don't seem to have much PB taste :( Just ate a Reeses Peanut Butter Egg, a damn shame these can't be turned into a protein bar :D

Try the Supreme Protein PB bar. I've had that one and it is really peanut-buttery. Good stuff. Plus 30g pure whey isolate.

really? I hope I can find a B&M store that carries them, I just finished a PowerBar Chocolate Caramel Fusion. Not bad, but definitely not one of the better for you bars out there. I must find this PB one you speak of.

Was at Walmart tonight they have the Met-RX Big 100 bars for like $1.70 each or a 4 pack for $6.70, much cheaper than my local supermarket and even a bit cheaper than off Amazon. I picked up the Apple Crisp as every review I've read has said they're really good. I like Apple & Cinnamon so these should be a hit with me. They have the Cookie Crunch, and PB cookie dough. At 400 calories each I think these will be the extra calories I need to keep working out and not lose weight.

When Kroger has them on sale, they are usually 3 for $5 or I've seen them 2 for $3. and there are coupons periodically in the Sunday paper.
