Favorite Neo Geo Game

that is indeed a fun game, I can clear 1st and 2nd mission with 1 credit. on LEVEL 8 ultra hard mode.:whiste:

if you guys are running emulators, make sure to turn triple buffering off, and also set render ahead frame to 0, aka flip queue size 0

with nvidia, you can use the control panel for this.

with ati, you need to download Radeonpro, software, it's free.

This ensures minimal input latency for super 2D action.

Back in high school, I ruled Samurai Shodown series at the arcade.

LOL, does it still count if you were the only kid who played samurai shodown? jkjk

that's a hard game, i could never get some of the setups right, to buffer those ridiculous snk inputs.

there are a lot of games out there that i enjoyed on neo geo...

Metal Slug series
Samurai Showdown series
World Heroes series
Fatal Fury series
Street Slam

but i think the one that took the cake as far as the most time i spent playing it was ...

Bust-a-Move

The music and background in the Knight's stage in Samurai Shodown was awesome. I loved Neo Geo for the games and the names of those games.

You mean Pazuru Boburu :whiste:

Fatal Fury Special; runner up would have to be Art of Fighting but only because of the scaling and zooming in and out of the big ass sprites (which was absent or incomplete on every other version). I'm giving Art of Fighting credit over Samurai Showdown because the former came out first. Art of Fighting and Fatal Fury Special had superior graphics to Capcom's best at the time, but the gameplay of the SNK games simply couldn't compare to that of Street Fighter.

The Neo Geo version of Fatal Fury Special beats the living hell out of every other version. The CD version is inferior to the cart version because of some long ass loading times and the fact that the remixed music sucks compared to the cart one.

Hmm... tough one. Basically have to be a fighting game fan.

Too bad the old school Squaresoft didn't do a 330 Mbit Final Fantasy on the Neo Geo back in their 16 bit glory days.

I cant actually recall playing a specific game on the system. One of my buddies got a used one and a couple games.
They did not impress, aside from the visuals.

And the reason they never got Final Fantasy is those games are damn expensive to make. No point in supported a platform unless you know for a fact you'll get millions of sales.

LOL, I don't think you quite grasp the concept of Neo-Geo 😉 no silly grinding.

I loved how the 1990 Neo Geo could compete with much later arcade systems. I think the best looking Neo Geo games beat out the best CPS 2 games (1993 tech). And the sprite animation in some of the later fighting games wasn't even that far behind Street Fighter 3 (1996 CPS 3 tech). Not as good, of course not, but for 6 years older it's frighteningly close.

Mark of the Wolves, Last Blade 2, Pulstar, and of course the Metal Slug games all looking good even today (only the low resolution hurts them). Even the Art of Fighting games had huge sprites. And, although crappy gameplay-wise, SVC Chaos had some decent graphics at times. Mainly the fact that it actually imported Hugo from Street Fighter 3 in almost all his CPS 3 glory.

Female Hugo too...

The best?

Garou: Mark of the Wolves

Just a great fighter, with great graphics and even good music. Each character was simply fun to play as. In high level play it can be annoying to get caught in infitite combos from break and feint moves, but on a casual or high-casual level it is quite fun and fair.

Don't forget the NeoGeo can be Overclocked !!!! 😀😀

The Neo Geo was far out of my price range during its time. I'm surprised so many people actually owned them. Most of my Neo Geo exposure was from the arcade versions.

My very favorite Neo Geo game is Baseball Stars 2.
Its one of those games I could always slide into and have a blast.

Other games I loved:

Samurai Shodown 2
Metal Slug
Real Bout Fatal Fury
World Heroes 2 Jet & Perfect (Rasputin 🙂 )

I don't regret dismantling my Neo Geo collection one bit. Still get my fix thru emulation.

Top five:

5. Metal Slug X
4. Last Blade 2
3. KoF '98
2. Garou: Mark of the Wolves

and . . .

1. Real Bout 2

That was not the most popular game (even by NeoGeo standards) but I really liked the game for some reason.
