favorite linux distribution

I am looking to install a linux dristribution and I ahve tried Mandrake but did not like it much. I am lookign for a distributionn that is really easy to install and use but still has a real nice GUI and has some nice feutures.

What do you guys suggest? I want something as easy to install as Mandrake as I am still kinda a n00b to linux but never liked Mandrake. I will be dual botting with WinXp

You might want to try Suse 9.2 it is easy to install. It uses GUI installation so it should be no problem for you.

Slackware.

And if Nothingman doesn't see this thead: Debian

either are great distros, easy to install if you are not extremly stupid and can follow instructions, Debian might be a bit easier though, Slacks install is more like installing FreeBSD, actually very similar.

Which you choose is up to you, i recommend Slackware.

I have been using Suse 9.1 on my laptop and on my desktop for a while now and to be honest it's ehhh.... ok. I'm not thrilled overall with it, although it could be a matter of taste. I've been using Debian on my servers and I think in the coming weeks I'm going to just replace Suse on my laptop and workstation with Debian.

So my vote goes to Debian.

Sorry about the misspelling.

For some reason I always find it funny when people misspell Nothinmans nick 😛

Oh and for the OP, try Fedora Core or SuSE.
As much as I love Debian, I don't think it's the right choice for someone who needs to ask for advice on an easy to install distro.

It seems like Debian is pretty good and since I already have it on disc because a freind reccomended it too I will install that. Thanks for the help guys.

Ubuntu is pretty nice. I gave it a go on my new laptop a few days ago and it was really easy to install.

I went with good old Gentoo in the end though. 😛
