Just making biscuits for dinner and it made me miss my mom - one of the things we had several times a week with dinner while I was growing up was homemade biscuits and there was always a fight for the last one.

Funny how food - or even the smell of something cooking - will bring back great memories.
 
My granny's cooking...any of it, though her biscuits are what I remember best.

As far as a commercial food, I really miss marshmallow krispies cereal.
 
I occasionally drive by my old elementary school when the weather is warm with the windows down. In the morning you can smell fresh bread baking. It's like a time machine.
 
I used to really love the cafeteria school pizza. I would barf if I ate it now though.

My aunt's lasagna still tastes as good as i remember though.
 
mom used to make the best french fries, fried chicken, and burgers as well as rice with lentil, potatoes, lima beans, etc 🙁 why couldnt i stay 13 yrs forever?
 
My dad's chili. I try to make it now, but it just isn't the same and it reminds me of how much I miss him. 🙁

Know what you mean. It's why I'm sitting around eating soggy biscuits and fondly remembering food fights - and getting thunked on the head with mom's big wooden spoon for 'em.

Did you get it from her? 'Cause I got my mom's recipe for stuffed bell peppers and couldn't understand how come they came out all rubbery and ooky (that's a word - try rubbery peppers and you'll use it too).

Turns out good ol' mom left out the part about blanching 'em in boiling water. She giggled a little when she said "I thought EVERYone knew that".

Now I'd never accuse her of doing it deliberately, but maybe there's a reason we all remember mom/gramma/dad/etc. being such good cooks and feeling like failures 'cause we can't duplicate the recipes. :biggrin:
 
My dad and I used to make muffins from the cheap crappy muffin mix every Saturday morning. I freaking loved those muffins.

I bought some of the mix a few years back and realized just how awful it actually is, but nonetheless.

Another method is to pre-cook the filling material (rice and beef), insert the cooked filling into the peppers, then just warm the peppers and filling in the oven. This way, the beef is cooked thoroughly and the peppers are warmed without overcooking.
 
There was a yoghurty thing called "Gloop" that I can find no record of, that I loved when I was younger, I remember it being recalled because some kids were going blind :hmm:

Damn. So many memories. Lamb chops with mint jelly on the side, because they were my no.1 fav food. But I can duplicate them, so no loss there.

What I sorely miss is my Dad's Yorkshire Pudding, which he would make when he made a Roast Beef (the crackling, it's to die for, yes?), with roasted potatoes. I could cry just thinking about it.

I loved it, It was amazing, It didn't taste like yoghurt and it was amazing. But I'm not blind (I don't think :hmm🙂
