Favorite dumb moments in movies dealing with computers

How about the TV show Alias, where the nerdy tech guy gives the hero chick something disguised as a business card which she is to place on the monitor of the bad guy's computer and this thing will crack the system's firewall. Crack a firewall through the montior? At least tell her to jam it into the floppy drive to make it somewhat more plausible!

That's a great one - it was in the movie, right?

Not even one mention of the movie The Net? That movie has a bag full of moments.

Yeah, that's a good example. I can't remember all the instances, but I do remember that while I was watching Sandra Bullock doing all that geek posturing I was thinking to myself, "what a fvcking poser!"

"I think i deleted your hard drive"

The Matrix

Elite computer hackers are fast enough to dodge bullets and jump skyscrapers yet they type about 1 word every 10 seconds like a retarded child who has never seen a computer before...

W a k e u p , N e o

Any movie where the 1337 hacker hasn't touched a computer in 41833165931 years, and when placed behind the latest technology can break into the most secure systems within minutes. Sure, all the old exploits still work on newer versions, and/or he's totally up-to-date on the latest hacking techniques!

a few people mentioned the scene in office space, but nobody mentioned what was funny about it: the guy was shutting down MacOS and after all the progress bars were done, it showed a C:\ prompt in DOS.

I love that part, of course no one else I watch it with actually understands why I find that so funny.

Uploading virus in Independance Day

You can end the thread now.

LOL I have to agree, this has got to be the stupidest.

The joke at the time (pre OSX for Apple) was that he just uploaded the MacOS and it brought down the whole alien mother ship.

Office space, when he tries to quit and shutoff his computer and leave work before his boss asks him to come in on saturday, and he gets about one thousand progress bars . . . then his boss comes up behind him.

Did you not see the apple on the outside.

I will vote for "The Net". Good lord that movie had me rolling...The Mission impossiblesque this email will self destruct as well as just clicking on a pi symbol that was clearly visible to go into a secret backdoor. Not to mention any hacker looking like Sandy..Reminded me of the poser Jolie in "Hackers"

The most realistic type hacker movie was Wargames

zoolander, second that one. good stuff.

another good one, not with a computer, but with a robot,
was a scene from a life less ordinary, where he tries to throw a robot
through a window.
