I can't think of any game less casual than Nethack. 😛

Peggle and Peggle Nights are fun. Started Plants vs Zombies the other day and it seems cool so far too.
 
Far Cry 2 - a quick capture the diamond match lasts about 15 minutes. There's never any planning, coordination, or team play, except what happens on the fly.

(because of the crappy design) After the match is over, you end up dumped at the menu, disconnected from the server you just played on. You can search for and play another match, or just stop, as time permits.

I bought Plants vs Zombies from Steam (it was on sale last week, is now $9.99) for my son. Not only does he enjoy it immensely, but I've also found it entertaining. A very nice surprise!
