I used to like Egyptian ratscrew, back when I was young and quick and could beat anyone.
Now I suck at it though, either that or I play with much better people, and I don't really enjoy it that much.
Being from Ohio, it seems as though it's predetermined. Euchre. It's funny, but it seems as though as soon as I cross the boarder out of Ohio I'm the only one around who knows how to play Euchre. Whenever I play here at Pitt I ask the people where they are from. I hear one of two things; "Ohio" and "xxxxx, but my (girl)boyfriend taught me to play and (s)he's from Ohio". Very rarely I meet someone from upstate NY who plays Euchre too.
Immediately when cards was mentioned I had a half dozen games in mind. I have a group of friends at school who when we're in between classes, all we do is play cards. So let's list the games we play.
Spades (with jokers as high cards)
Hearts (only problem is someone always tries to shoot the moon)
Canasta
Chinese Poker
Liverpool Rummy (a kinda hearts, spades mix)
Texas Hold 'em
I always loved hearts and for some reason while I play spades sometimes, I feel like it's the "uncouth" version of hearts.
For "conventional" card games it's mostly hearts. Occasionally pinochle, spoons or rat screw. I used to be a master at spoons, stealing a spoon and passing cards for the next 5 minutes until someone else thinks they've gotten their set and go for a spoon.
I also like Cribbage
For "uncoventional" card games (that you don't play with playing cards) it's:
Tichu
Day of the Dead
Mystery Rummy (although I usually only play Wyatt Earp)
Ohne Furcht Und Adel (if that counts)
Lost Cities
DragonMaster
Bohnanza
and that old classic Milles Bornes.
