Favorite Box Cutters?

I just got my job as a computer tech, and have been told that I am to expect dozens of PC components shipped in daily. I've had bad experiences in the past where a box cutters resistance to being open/closed was very minimal and I cut myself on a few occasions due to the sharp edge looking little different than the dull edge, to top it off the resistance was hardly there so I had no time to catch it before cutting myself. The obvious answer is 'be more careful', but in this fast paced environment, I feel that I will misplays my prioritys and not be as careful as perhaps I should be.

Do any of you have a favorite brand/type of box cutter that can cut open large/small packages alike?

i've been wondering what a box cutter is for the last 6 years, one month, and 5 days.

It is but ElFenix is 1) a Texan and 2) look at his post count!

I haven't used a box cutter since my high school days when I was a "courtesy clerk" for a grocery store.

I use a flat head screwdriver because people borrow the box cutters and never return them :(

Huh. The only box cutters they supplied us with when I was a stocker were these tiny metal shells that held a razor blade. Not a utility/safety knife.

i consider a utility knife to be what anubis posted and this to be a box cutter. virtually the same thing, its kind of like a coupe vs a sedan.

Hah... I'm not sure what kind of weapons the hijackers had, but I call that a utility knife, not a box cutter. A box cutter is a very specialized type of knife intended specifically for cutting boxes. It uses a replaceable razor blade to cut, and when the blade is extended it sticks out just far enough to cut through the thickness of a cardboard box. It is perfectly suited for opening cardboard boxes without (generally) damaging the contents.

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. Note that just the edge of the blade sticks out past the slanted metal frame. It's perfect for quickly cutting open boxes and pretty much nothing else. I used to use those when I worked at a convenience store, and they're great.

The box cutters walmart provides their associates work pretty good. Sorry I don't know what brand they are though.

And they've got some little metal thumb guard thing, which has a little point on it, kind of like an egg tooth. They say to use that to rip through tape, but I never did use it - always went straight for the blade.
I still have it, after leaving Walmart. The assistant managers granted me perpetual custody of it. :D

utility knifes use a replaceable blade as well and you can adjust the blade placement so when fully extended it stick out no further then a "box cutter" blade does
