Favorite Books!

My personal favorite is The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich.

I like some fictional books, but when something happens in real life that's just as amazing as any fictional story, it makes it more fascinating to me.

Oh, I forgot. My favorite fictional book is "The Name of the Rose," by Umberto Eco. A difficult read, but it was well worth it.

edit: Crap, just noticed I'm a senior member. Hooray.
205 posts, first edit. Another milestone for me.
I'm in a celebratory mood.

The Name of the Rose is a great book; the movie kind of sucked even though Sean Connery was in it.

It's hard for me to say which is the best book for me. The books I've read the most is LOTR but I enjoy historical fiction the mostly now. Michener is great as is Clavell. Ken Follet's "Pillars of the Earth" is very good and Louis L'mour's "Walking Drum" as well as Colleen McCullough's "First Man of Rome".

Fiction:
LOTR
The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever-Stephen R. Donaldson ( second series was weak )
Focault's Pendulum- Umberto Ecco ( Arschloch, you should check it out and I agree Name of the Rose was a difficult read but he gets a nod for research )
Most of Michael Crichton
Almost any adult fiction by Roald Dahl.

Non Fiction: I'll have to think about that for a bit.

Don't know that I have an all time favorite, but here are some that are at the top of my list:

Carl Sagan - Cosmos <--If I had to choose one this might be it
Franz Kafka - The Trial
Fyodor Dostoevsky - Crime & Punishment
J.R.R. Tolkien - LOTR
Orson Scott Card - Enders Game
Stephen King - The Stand
Robert Heinlein - Time Enough For Love
Ray Bradbury - The Illustrated Man <--actually a collection of short stories but they are really really good.

<< Atlas Shrugged >>

I have to get around to reading this book at some point. My mom said it is the best book she ever read, and she disagrees with what it was saying.

Slaugherhouse Five, Galapagos, and Timequake by Kurt Vonnegut.
Catch-22 by Joseph Heller.
Flatland by Edwin Abbott.
Hyperspace and Visions by Michio Kaku.
Elegand Universe by David Greene.

Tom Clancy's "Without Remorse"

It's a...umm..."human" Tom Clancy book. Neat change, less techno, more character. 🙂

edit: The Great Gatsby's pretty phat too 🙂
