Been gone to long to see any new book threads, lets see everyones favorites 🙂 authors to

R.A. Salvatore(drizzt books)
Piers Anthony(xanth and incarnations of immortality)
Robert Jordan(WoT)

Stephen Kings The Stand and The Gunslinger series, Swan Song, The Talisman by Stephen King and Peter Straub, Angela's Ashes and A Tree Grows In Brooklyn.

Kim Stanley Robinson: Red/Blue/Green Mars trilogy
JRR Tolkien: The Hobbit, Lord Of The Rings trilogy
The Wheel of Time series (I cannot for the life of me remember the authors name right now. I had it, then it decided to take a walk without signing out. Ill have to punish that memory when it comes back in!)
I also really like the New Jedi Order series of Star Wars books put out by Del-Rey. If they keep this up, then the nightmare of the majority of Bantam star wars books will be soon forgotten.

Hey you forgot Terry Pratchet and JRR Tolkien.

I´m reading "The Truth" by Terry Pratchet right now, its good 🙂

Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder. And the Earth Children Saga by Jean Auel, and i don't care what my prof thinks about that.

Another Jean Auel fan here. I really enjoyed 'clan of the cavebear' but I thought the other ones were somewhat disappointing.

Other good ones for me include A secret History by Donna Tartt and Gravity's Rainbow by Thomas Pynchon. At least those are the two I think of off the top of my head and I can't really be bothered to write anymore.

bye! 🙂

heh, i've been waiting for the auel's last book in the series for 6 years now - speaking of disappointment

Hmm...I'd have to say at the moment, my favorites books/series/authors would be:

The Sword of Truth Series (Terry Goodkind)
The Hitchhiker's Series (Douglas Adams)
Fahrenheit 451 (Bradbury)
The Taming of the Shrew (Shakespeare)
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (Ken Kesey)
All Quiet on the Western Front (Remarque)

Think that about covers it for the moment, though there honestly have been very few books that I've ever finished reading and disliked. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, The Three Muskateers, Watership Down (fluffy rabbits that kill each other, woohoo!), Purgatorio, and lots of others were all great. Yes I'm a dork, but reading is enjoyable damnit!=)

i've been waiting forever for that last in the auel series too...i didn't know anyone else was excited about it too🙂

my favorite book is 'a praywer for owen meany' by john irving...such a great book, i have made almost all my friends read it🙂

I like a lot of books, but my all time favorites are still some of my first reads...

Dune by Frank Herbert
The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien

🙂

Oh, and as for the Auel series:

I used to work in a bookstore and would have the occassional customer come up and ask when the next book was due out. Auel had first set a date (since passed long, long ago) though now I believe there really isn't any indication when it's going to get here. My manager was THE goddess of all things bookly and even she had no clue...though don't lose hope, as I'm sure the author gets tons and tons of harassment mail daily about another installment =)

Terry Goodkind.

"Wizard's First Rule"
"Stone of Tears"
"Blood of the Fold"
"Temple of the Winds"
"Faith of the Fallen"

<< R.A. Salvatore(drizzt books) >>

- I like these as well

I also like R. McCammon, T. Morrison, and James H Schmidt. I actually learned about McCammon in a thread just like this, and it turned out to be great.

Patricia Cornwell's Scarpetta series;
Janet Evanovich's Plum series;
Joan Hess' Maggody series;
Lawrence Sanders' McNally series;
old Stephen King books (The Stand, The Shining, The Bachman Books);
Carol O'Connell's Mallory series.
