Needs a PC.

Well the thing is, he has a craptacular PC, like it can barely use wordprocessors on it as it is. And I think he has a 15" monitor as well.

Being the PC dork that I am (well, I play gams on it, that's about it:eek:), I'd very much like for him to get a better PC - but at the same time he's flat broke.

That being said, what's the best PC he can get for approximately $50? I think he can use the monitor that he has already - just the box.

Or any of you PC gurus at ATOT willing to donate an old system for him? ;)

(And mods/whoever, if this is in the wrong topic section, sorry )

For $50 maybe just try and upgrade a component (ram, video or processor).

I have been to one garage sale with computer parts, and believe me, I would NEVER trust any of the merchandise. Same with used parts at computer shows.

Specs? What kind of video does it have? Doubt it has a AGP slot.

If a word processor hardly runs for his friend, I bet he has a pentium 1 or slower (Probably a 486).

Well, I gave a friend a Cyrix PR133 w/ 32MB RAM, 1GB HD, Win98 so heavily stripped down even IE was missing (and MS said it couldn't be done), and 602 Office Suite. Runs pretty quick for what it is, but it only needs to do word processing and speadsheets.
