I'd think he's lying again. After 7 years and 30 days of his Presidency, he has absolutely nothing to be proud of.

How ridiculous. Broken down, she said nothing more than she's extremely proud of her country because there's a heavy push in change, heavy push in interest in politics, etc. Being "really proud" now does not in any way negate the idea that she was proud before. She's only been a legal adult for 26 years many of which have been spent in the trenches with the poor. It's amazing how absurd some people can sound.

"For the first time in my adult life" is where the contention comes in, I think.

I agree that it's a non-story, but Hillary's remarks about MLK Jr. were equally innocuous and the Obama camp felt it fair game to blow those out of proportion, so it shouldn't be surprising if Hillary or McCain do the same.

Hell ya'll, that would be one of his better moments.

#1: It's "y'all", as in "you all"; not "ya'll". If you're going to try to mock me, at least do it intelligently, okay?
Sorry bout that y'all. Being a Northern Redneck I haven't got the Southern Redneck lingo down

#2: Really? Honestly? It would have been one of his "better moments"? You know as well as I that the majority of the people fervently defending Mrs. Obama would be poking as many jabs at our President as they could.
Sheeeiit y'all, compared to his multitude of verbal gaffes over the last 7+ years this would pale in comparison

In other words, you agree with me. Thanks for clipping the end of my message, in your quote, btw.

It would be great to see a campaign one day that isn't full of these bogus extractions of what someone says. I guess, so far, it's been fairly civil.

Hey, I ain't all bad. :p

I just go by the saying that if we're all thinking alike, that's because someone isn't thinking.

I agree. I read her first quote carefully looking to see if she had said 'really' but she did not. She said it was the first time she was proud. I to look at it as 'revealing' but, while I think it best not to say such things in front of patriotic fools, it does say something about how she feels. I happen to be OK with that feeling, even though I also think there are real things to be proud of. I think she comes from a cultural environment where the US government, white people, more or less, hasn't always been a very good friend. As I said, I haven't a problem with negativity that wants to make things better, but I prefer some care with words and realization that some people are patriotically defensive and it's easier not to offend them if you want their vote and help.

This is how it's going to start. The Republicans are going to impugn the patriotism of Obama and his wife. First, it was the he doesn't put his hand over his heart during the pledge/national anthem. He doesn't wear a flag lapel. His wife doesn't love America, etc. It's all BS but many people will eat it up.

The die-hard Republicans will. I doubt it will have much effect with likely Obama voters. Maybe i give people too much credit, but i doubt that someone that was going to vote for Obama says "Wait, his wife isn't always proud of her country? Let me vote for McCain."

He talked for 44 minutes tonight. If you are hearing only meaningless calls for change, it isn't because he isn't talking, it's because you aren't listening.

A donkey listening to anyone speaking remains a donkey. It has nothing to do with content or the number of words.

I caught the Cindy McCain episode last night. It was such a bogus, transparent put-up job it made me sick and Mrs. McCain should be truely embarassed.

It starts off by Senator McCain motioning to his wife and saying she has a few words to say. She then says her only role is to introduce her husband, and as part of that introduction does her "I've always loved my country" slame. Afterwords, with Senator McCain present, the reporters ask her what she meant, and was she directing her remarks to any particular person. "Oh, no" she says, coyly fluttering her eyelashes, I never meant to attack anyone I was just saying I have always loved my country. Senator McCain then cut off the questions.

At least with Karl Rove the GOP attack machine had some finesse and wasn't so transparently clumsy. To so obviously plant the attack and then deny it was an attack is hardly the "straight talk" we are promised from that camp.

Haha. You call that an "attack"? I think they were just wondering why Mrs Obama would say something like that, just like a lot of people were. If your opponents say something stupid, why not point it out? That's not an attack, my friend, except in the mind of an Obama fanboy.

It was an attack, and disingenuous at best.

Your Queen is now in her last throes. She's 90 yards out with only a few seconds on the clock.

It was a quick shot, not an attack, but the media will take this and run with it. Gotta get people angry at one another or who's gonna pay attention? The Clinton/Obama fued seems to be winding down, so gotta drum up anothe rivalry! It's the silver haired vixen with the dead eyes vs the unpatriotic angry black woman, round 1!

But of the 10 seconds of McCain's speech I saw last night, he's building on it, as I think he ended with something like "for the past 30 years I've always been proud of my country." Reps are going to start pouring through BO/MO's highschool, college papers and grad school papers looking for any statement that could be construed as unpatriotic. Cindy's throwaway was just a precursor. When there's an attack, it won't be debateable.

Well, I just lost a bit more respect for Senator McCain. I don't think these stunts are going to do anything but harm to him.

Most definitely. McCain is preparing his attacks.

But this is good. With the Queen out of the race, we'll be able to have a decent debate and discussion about real, substantive issues...instead of Days Of Our Lives, circa 1998.

His campaign manager or whoever thought that up is retarded. They are basically saying the role of the first lady is non-existent and inconsequential.

I'd love to see her try to hold her on in a debate

Look I think what Mrs. Obama said was pretty stupid of her to say. The one thing the Obama camp has done has been to run a generally clean and mistake free campaign this entire time which was/is a good thing but I must say what she said does alarm me for 2 reasons:

1: It wasn't an off the cuff remark. It was an actual speech which means that the staffers and advisers read it and they all had no problem with her saying the words "this is the first time in my adult life that I've been proud of my country." She has been an adult for a long time and the US has done a whole lot of good in the world since she's been an adult.

2: She hasn't come out and clarified what she meant or even addressed it. They are just letting us interpret this as we may which is not a good idea and it is only going to give Hillary and McCain ammo against her and him. Just go on a softball show and say "hey I meant this is the most proud moment of my life in my country because we are taking great strides to overcome racism and sexism in the United States" and everyone would fawn over here and its done.

But they aren't addressing it so it will be baggage.
