Saw your boss on TV last night. She'd never managed people before and she got the nod for the head of the CDC?

That call center in the CDC is pretty cool!

Why didn't you get any airtime?? I guess with SARS noone cares about STD's anymore? ;)

She doesn't have to manage people. Being the head of the CDC is really more about having sufficient knowledge and understanding of what all goes on here to be able to communicate effectively with the public and the government (read: obtaining funds). She also has a big role in guiding the direction of the center as a whole to better serve the public.

It is indeed....especially considering most of the people you'll talk to are CDC employees volunteering their time.

I was on for a second or two. You must have missed the guy in the loincloth that ran in front of the camera and was immediately tackled and dragged away. That was me. :p

Probably. Slightly pudgy white guys with bad tanlines wearing loincloths is not exactly a ratings goldmine. ;)

I think you're wrong; isn't that the demographic that Survivor was based on?

LOL! I didn't watch the whole thing... DAMN!!! ;)

I only mentioned the part about managing people because they specifcally mentioned that fact during the interview...

I'm surprised they allow volunteers to take calls. The volunteers must be very well screened to keep out the nutballs that would say, "You have what??!! Dude! You're going to DIE!!" :\

The volunteers are trained specifically for whatever kind of calls they'll be fielding (ie- SARS in this case). They can handle 90% of the questions they'll get and the other 10% will get referred to someone with specific knowledge of the subject.

These volunteers are all science-types by they way.

Slightly pudgy with all the bike riding you do??

amish
Sadly, yes. I got kinda fat over the last year or so by not riding as much as I used to but continuing to eat everything not nailed down. I've gotten back on the horse this year and am dropping it pretty quickly. I should be back to normal (about 180) in another month or so.
