Father-in-law's birthday

I'm thinking of getting a supersized calculator from Brookstone.

He always loses calculators. This one, almost the size of letter-size paper, should be easy to find.

Good idea? Bad?

It depends on how comfortable you are around your father-in-law.

If the two of you go out and do things together, like golf, watch baseball or fish together, then it'd be an ok gift.

If the two of you get along, but don't do a lot of stuff together, perhaps it's a bit iffy.

i'm cool with the guy and he has a good sense of humor

.....but then again he can always 'switch' and think that the huge calculator with huge digits is saying that he's becoming senile and i'm poking fun at him (which is kinda true...the poking fun part).
