I get a Fatal Exception 0D at 00e8:00007F58 whenever I try to restart win98, this problem started upon installation of a promise/maxtor ata card, so that pretty much narrows down the culprit, the question is, what can I do to resolve this, short of removing the card?

what about removing the card, getting rid of the error, remove any traces of the card and then try again. Sometimes it takes a few to get it right.

try changing pci slots first to see if that helps, then I would totally remove it from device manager, and start from scratch.

Those ideas were close to the resolution in the removing aspect.

I rebooted into safe mode and noticed that I had 5 hard drives listed, when there were only 4 installed. Due to the labeling of my drives in device manager, I ruled out that one of the two "generic" labeled was wrong (it had drive E assigned to it, when it was actually F)

Removed the drive in safe mode, rebooted and all is well. Thanks for the attempts to help.
