FAT32 vs NTFS

self explanatory really...winxp asks whether i want to upgrade...well...do i? (gaming rig)

I personally see little difference on a regular consumer level system... (performance wise)

the real pros/cons are all on paper and I think for the average user, sticking to FAT32 would just be easier in the end...

If you've never used NTFS before, there is no reason to switch IMO unless you are running an NT server or something.. FAT32 under win2k has always worked well for me, and all files and such are completely compatible with other PC's like win9x obviously so it just makes things easier.

sure there are reasons NTFS is better, but I believe they are negligible.. surely you will hear differently!

here is another reason to go to NTFS- it uses smaller file clusters than FAT32 saving you hard drive space. i switched from FAT32 to NTFS under WINXP and noticed that is one of the big improvementws over FAT32. IMHO that makes it worth it right there.

Yup, FAT32 is very limited with large partitions. It is not as flexible, not as secure, and lacks the kewl options of NTFS. I concur there is no reason not to use the latter these days.
