I'm normally not a huge fan of beer, but this is the one beer that I can have many of and not be sick of. I figure since I'm against the usual array of "elitist" beers and prefer the cheap domestic stuff, how does something like Fat Tire rank?

I'm also a fan of Miller High Life.

The only New Belgium beer that I'm a big fan of is Sunshine. That's some good stuff!
 
8/10 maybe. Pretty darn good, but there's better imho. It's a little on the sweet side for my tastes. But I'll gladly have one or three with ya. 🙂:beer:
 
On beeradvocate it gets an 83/100 so a B- for that style. If I'm in the mood for a lighter micro brew I like Fat Tire. New Belgium makes some much more potent brews.
 
Fat tire is a mediocre american amber at best. Not enough body (malt) to really classify as an american amber. Honestly, its more of a "copper colored" blonde ale.

BTW, im a National Judge of beer (the BJCP scale: apprentice, recognized, certified, national, then master).
 
It used to be much better when it first came out in Ft Collins. It got popular, they moved breweries, and it was never the same IMO. Still good, but there are far better brews around. Denver area has a number of really good microbrews. Flying Dog is really good, Avalanche is great also, and Tommyknocker's Maple is really good too if you like sweetness. Boulder beer has some decent ones too. The Mountain Sun in Boulder has some amazing beers, but are only avail in pub (last time I was there at least.) If I would buy it now, it would be more form nostalgia than its greatness.

I don't think its about "elitist" tho. IMO its more about quality. Its the difference between buying a burger at McDs and grilling a fat 1/2#'er made from good beef on your own grill. Both can be enjoyable, but they're not the same.

To each his own tho. There are a number of great wines, and they taste like rubbing alcohol & Dimetapp to me.

I had one in Chicago a few months back...I could see why it was so popular, but it wasn't the best I've had. I'm sitting in my hotel room in Milwaukee with a red from the bar downstairs...don't remember the name of the brewery, but I'm going to be having lots of this in the next week. 🙂
 
It's a Honda Accord of beers.

Almost always a safe choice that doesn't really offend anyone. It's a much better beer than the marketing queens like Heineken and Corona. But then it's an ale instead of a lager which really helps.

If you like Fat Tire, in the summer check out their Skinny Dip ale.
 
i forgot about skinny dip. i rank the new belgium brews that i have tasted as skinny dip, sunshine, fat tire.
