-Gaming blogs jump on it due to lack of any real industry news.
-Gaming forums everywhere explode.

Yea, looks like we've got it all covered. Kudos.

You forgot one thing - feminist gaming blog suddenly gets tons of hits from the attention and makes a decent chunk of cash.

Being obese (not fat, obese like those princess in-game) is not like being black, being obese is bad, it's unhealthy, obese people should not be encouraged to remain obese, they shouldn't be attacked, rather helped, but they certainly shouldn't complain when obesity is portrayed as a bad quality.

What's next, drug addicts complaining to Monolith because they are incorrectly portrayed in the game Condemned and criticizing it because it's "junkie-bashing"?

I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, but being obese (not a little fat, obese) is a flaw, there is nothing to argue about there, obese people should take control of their lives and regain a normal body-weight.

On the other side, I really thought we were past the feminist issues, women can do whatever they want now and they are treated differently than men (obviously duh, we ARE different) but equally in terms of social terms, heck sometimes women are treated better. What do women want now? Surgically remove their uterus can give them to men so WE have to give birth? Seriously this is ridiculous, women can do whatever they want, sexism is not really an issue anymore.

No, they're too high to even think about people bashing them.

being fat is bad thing. why would anyone be ok with being fat?? these feminist idiots are comparing it to race or religion. also, how does this target females in anyway other than the fact that a princess by definition would have to be a female?

Actually being heteronormative means you belief that people should behave according to their sexes, while it mainly refers to the very obvious fact that someone should only mate with someone of the opposite sex, on some people it can also extend to the fact that they believe men should only do manly and women should do girly stuff (though heteronormativity is more about men fulfilling the roles they are supposed to and women doing likewise, might seem like the same thing but it's a big difference), heteronormative thinking is common in every human being and it's based on the basic principle that different sexes exist for a reason which is a concept most people naturally accept.

Heteronormativity is essential to the preservation of the human race and it is NOT, and I emphasize this point, IT IS NOT in anyway directly related to sexism.

Feminists think that being fat is a good thing. Being fat reduces the chance of sexual harassment from males.

LOL that comment made my day 🙂

Anyways, I just heard they suggested changing the princess mechanic to a chest one, while gameplay wise it would affect nothing it wouldn't be as funny as feeding a fat princess.

A game offending a specific group? If anything, a look in the mirror should offend those who are "more-over-their-ideal-mass" and then do something.

Feminist? Hell, its another take on saving the princess amongst many games that involve princess saving. It even dates back to medieval times where it drew inspiration from. Should we ban text that depict such heroism of knights and shining armor?

Though lets be honest... Does anyone have any motivation to save a fat princess? Or... why would the enemy, should they kidnap a formerly hot princess, make her fat in the first place?

Eh, do you have any motivation to kill cops, make drug runs and rob banks? Or inject yourself with strange DNA altering drugs?

I think it's crap, people will find anything to complain about ... fuckin blogs.

Princess Peach always did look pudgy in that dress. And those mushroom fellas needed to work out a whole lot more. Heck, the entire Mario world is overweight.

What do you tell a woman with two black eyes?

Nothing, you already told her twice.

What's the first thing a woman does when she gets out of a battered women's shelter?

Go right back to the guy who put her there?

Nope. She does the dishes if she knows what's good for her!

Ba-dum-ching!

I'm so sorry this game didn't come out in 2004 when I was working on my thesis (75 pages on the shifting roles of gender portrayals in video games over the years, not including 24 pages of pictures or any works cited notations); it would have been perfect. That said, given that most representations of video game females in the post-Duke Nukem world have been highly sexualized portrayals based on an adolescent male fantasy of the perfect woman, it seems that this is a step in the right direction. True, it is a very heteronormative portrayal (women are weak, unable to protect themselves, and need big strong men to save them), but it's also showing that even obese women can be desirable. Well, actually, the description is vague, it could be that the opposing team has kidnapped the princess and is forcefeeding her to make her undesirable, in which case, that's not a great message. But then again, it's hard to argue that an overweight princess is a healthier role model than Lara Croft, who, for all her sexualization, is in phenomenal shape from an athletic standpoint.

These feminist bloggers seem to be making a mountain out of a molehill. There are much better targets for their ire than this bit of fluff.

Atomic Playboy,

No matter how much they deny it, most all women want a man to save them and take them away on their big white horse. Look at any chic flik to understand. Sorry to get OT, but that's reality.

QFT!

Feminists should just be ignored. They are just a small group of crazies that in no way represent the majority of women.

I picked it because no one else uses it - I can easily pick out my posts when scrolling through a thread. Kind of freaks me out when someone else uses this avatar though, because I read "my" posts and don't remember writing them. 😛

Picture of me to confirm I'm a guy: Text

Fat people are actually much less susceptible to many diseases, including some cancers.

But this isn't about fat people. This is about women who don't know their place.

Why does a women not need a watch?

If you're having trouble bringing steak to work, then you aren't trying hard enough.

The problem is that your attitude was applied the same way to block people not that long ago - the thought was that they were inept and stupid, but should not be pitied but rather helped to overcome their natural handicap (of being black). In some cases obesity is not a choice (diseases can cause obesity).

You = ignorant. You immediately tried to disassociate your views of fat people from racism because secretly, deep down, you realize that you're no better than a racist. You're hating someone for being different. That's really what it boils down to.
