A suspension is time off from school. How is this a bad thing?

I was suspended in grade school (primary for you Americans?) for throwing a snowball at a wall, no people near by. Mom laughed and I had time off.
Never heard of primary school. Born and raised in the U.S.A.

Considering how you brag about lying to the Canadian military about having a facial skin problem just so you can get away with growing a beard, I don't believe for one second that you were just standing there all by yourself, decided to make a snowball and throw it at a wall and then suddenly you were accosted by a teacher and suspended.

You are a known liar, you brag about it.

I'm almost willing to bet money that you probably were told not to throw snowballs for fear of breaking a window on that wall or something and pushed it just to see if you could get away with it.

I'm going to ignore the first part because I know who it was directed at, but as far as this statement, well, not true.

Call me a liar all you want but I stated a simple truth.

definitely a ton of win. i just wish shit like this never got to this point. it would be nice if teachers or other faculty members would walk around public areas to monitor this kind of shit

I think it's fine suspending the fat kid--a bit of excessive force, there--but the little bitch needs to be suspended too. I think that's the complaint.

Kid and his friends are not bullies, how do I know? Nobody jumped in to save his ass after he got slammed. His friends are the stupid bunch who instigate others to fight. But are too pussy to fight themselves, I hope they all learned a lesson.

Where did I say the suspension was a bad thing? It's a completely appropriate punishment. The facepalm is that the fat kid was the only one that got suspended.

Have to take into account that I'm old. So, kindergarten, elementary(1-6), junior high(7,8), high school (9-12).

yes

however some placed do middle as 6-8 and some do 7-9

the fact that only 1 of them got suspended is stupid, the other kid hit first, when i was in HS both would have been suspended.

Ah, fair enough. Not sure how the skinny kid avoided it. Someone will see this video eventually.

Assuming this in the op.

And the boy is obviously the aggressor. Agree, he could have been goaded into it but those are the consequences of being a follower, imo.

I know.

I am not siding with the guy that cold-cocked him.

What I am saying is that, just like with most things in life, it usually is not as simple as the story we all get to see.

The sad part is, these guys are the stooges and end up getting hurt for the amusment of others. That small kid probably has a broken leg and a concussion and the big kid now has a mark on his record and additional psycological trauma (he knew he went too far when he did that, that was why he immediately turned away. He was probably taught right and knew that he could have killed him doing that. It sucks when the adrennaline wears off and you are allowed to start thinking again...).

I just hope they both learned something from this. The little one learns that you have to pay for your actions, regardless of who told you to do them. The big kid, that he IS big, and that his actions can go beyond a typical schoolyard brawl from yesteryear. Regardless of motivation, if he killed that kid it would be aggravated assault and manslaughter. Not a good thing to have on your record (some places keep serious crimes on even after 18yo...).

Similar to that one father being killed by the other because they were in a shouting match at a pee-wee hockey game. Regardless of the situation, you have to know what you are capable of. Seriously injuring or killing another is never a simple situation.

Good for the big kid. That little shit will hopefully not pick on another kid again. Not sure why the little kid was not suspended unless they didn't see the video. Why wouldn't you suspend a kid for punching/striking another?

He probably avoided it because he was the one that was beat to hell and the big kid probably had no marks to speak of.

This is not right, but if you get called in on something and you see those two in the condition they were in after the fight, what would you think happened?

One problem though. Suspension is a punishment to let you know you have done something wrong. Unfortunately, it also makes it harder for you to do well in your classes.

I always found that detension was a worse punishment than suspension. You still had to go to class, do your work and study, but you also lost some afternoons or Saturday Mornings because of what you did.

How will it help the skinny kid learn if he is out for a week or two with a cracked skull (maybe) and then suspended for a few days because of his act?

Would it be better to detain him and put it on his record? Maybe better for both?

What if the skinny kid punched and killed the big boned kid?
Let's say he knocked him out and he fell unconscious and hit his head and died.

I think the bully had every right to completely incapacitate the aggressor skinny kid.
Punches, kicks, body slams, whatever.
A straight punch to the face is about as aggressive as it comes in starting a fight.
He deserves any retaliation up to the point where it stops his aggression.

Sad thing is that, if you read the movic text, the kid (Casey) who slammed the other into the concrete is the one that got punished. With video proof like this, why the HELL would you punish him? Defending yourself is now a punishable offense? Sad the world we live in where when you stand up for yourself, you get shoved back harder by even bigger people.

Playing "what if" does not change the situation.

That is not what happened and does not validate any alternate result.

No, he doesn't. You kill someone, they are dead. There are different motivators for this which make the crime more or less serious. From 1st degree murder, to self defense.

The big kid was not in danger of losing his life. He could have walked away. He could have called a teacher. Are these PLAUSIBLE situations in a school yard? No. He would have been teased mercilessly about it if he had done any of them.

But that STILL does not validate the extent he went to.

This is the hard thing. I am seeing a LOT of people here that have probably had something similar happen to them and wished that THEY could have done something similar. We all do to some extent.

The problem is, whether we sympathize for the big kid in this or not, both of these guys need to know how to conduct themselves appropriately in life. If they don't, this will not be the last of their problems.

its not new, i got suspended for defending myself in HS. other kid also got suspended

Got scooped up, slammed, and embarrassed. I like the way big boy just let him get close, then just brought the pain, lol.
