I can't believe I'm posting to a fitness forum on AT. How did that happen?

Anyway this post is a shout about a small victory - was down to 247 lbs this morning, from 260 originally.

Hey don't laugh all you kids - wait until you reach the magic age when you can't eat anything you want without gaining a pound.

Go Fat Daddy!

Maybe you have already, but if you keep having success at some point you should talk about what you did, might motivate someone else.

Update: Fat Daddy down to 246 pounds from 259

@Skace: Good idea I'll tell my secret, fwiw :)

First let me say I don't post this thread because I expect anyone to care, it's more of a miniature celebration to try and keep going. But if someone is in the same boat, hey welcome aboard and share your own battle.

"Secrets to losing weight"

Of course if I had real secrets I'd be rich, but there are a couple things that help focus:

1) Get rid of everything from your house you shouldn't be eating.

A crack addict cannot quit if crack is laying around the house. Tell whoever you live with too bad - this is a matter of life and death (which it is) and you need their cooperation. Even stuff that doesn't seem bad but is a problem for you. Like for me a weakness is PB&J sandwiches - I have no jelly in the house. No bad snack food. If someone bakes you cookies give them away.

2) Remember that being fat makes you die faster

I had no idea that the majority of people who die from heart disease cause the problems themselves from bad diets. The biggest killer in the world and it's mostly self inflicted? It's like cigarettes, might as well start smoking!

3) I've got a kid

Dying would hurt more than myself - I'm much more afraid of it for my family's sake than my own.

Also being fat teacher your kids to be fat, which I don't want to do to them.

Disclaimer: Not only am I not a doctor I'm not an expert on anything and I've only lost 13 pounds :)

#1 is a mjor point that I always have to tell people. It killed me to seea ll teh stuff I had that I considered "food" to be thrown out but it had to go. eventually, that apple or that Kashi cereal sounds just as good as a Snickers bar or some cake. You've started off great and obviously made great progress, so you have a nice future ahead!

It is not only the jelly (high sugar content), but also some of the peanut butters you buy in safeway and albertsons are very high in saturated fat and trans fat. The dehydrogenated vegetable oil they use to make the peanut butter stay in a typical creamy/spreadable form contains a lot of fat.

Cut out the jam and Jiffy and buy some natural peanut butter, the stuff with the oil at the top.

Keep it up. Maintain a steady weight loss and slowly cut back the calories again if you stop progress.

Don't forget to add exercise to the mix. I'm not as much big per-say but still pretty unhealthy on a cardiovascular level. I just recently committed to a diet as I could stand to drop about 30lbs (not starvation type but healthy eating). Also got an elliptical and at first could hardly do 5 straight minutes at the with lowest resistance set. Now almost 2 weeks later I can do 30 minutes of an enhanced routine, could probably do more if i pushed myself.

Some more good points, that seem to work for me.

1) The Ol' adage of forcing myself to drink more water. I do this by drinking about 10oz with each "meal" which equates to about half a gallon. Less that some recommend but it gets the job done for me. It has another good effect of causing me to cut down on the other juices.

2) Forcing myself to eat 3 small "meals" and 2 snacks a day in between, usually paired with a serving of fruit or vegetables. I usually go for high fiber, low sugar veggies and fruit and loads of it. The fiber absorbs water and sits in your stomach and gives you a longer lasting feeling of being full.

I've had success with that but the thing about getting healthy and inshape boils down to commitment, determination and motivation. Just gotta plan how best you can get it down and stick to it.
