I find it amazing the reached out to the Kremlin for a film crew and the guys that were recommended kept the unflattering footage and felt NK's handlers were way too involved. Wow, just wow.

North Korea is really an astonishing situation. Amazing how it can get to such a point, and I'm guessing an amazing opportunity for psychologists to study how people can / can't be manipulated and controlled.

Even if the place were to magically become free right now, the people really would not have any clue how to make decisions for themselves, probably even in the smallest aspects of their lives.

Certainly possible. At the very least some or all of the minders tasked with this project have already been beaten to a pulp and thrown on a truck bound for a gulag.
