Define "crap you don't need". They don't integrate E-mail or Usenet clients into Web browsers anymore IE is very lean, but of course relies on numerous DLLs that are part of Windows now. Netscape 4.x was very buggy for me. I switched to IE.

if you're on ie 6 or another newer version, go to internet options > advanced. look at all the crap theyhave in their. also, i believe most of the newer browsers have java built in. probably don't need that for most web surfing, and java applets are generally slow anyway.

I liked IE 4 and later, but i found netscape to load pages quicker on older computers.

What can I say. Compare the size of Opera to the size of Mozilla. Subtract 10 megabytes. If you get a positive number, Mozilla is bloat. Doom II was 15 MB, for crying out loud!!!

Bloat is something that feels slow and sloppy IMO. Only because something is bigger, doesn't mean it's bloat, no?

Bloat is generally referred to as an overly large program. Example: for word processing all you really nead is Wordpad, an un-bloated piece of software, or you could use MS Word, a very bloated piece of software .

I find Mozilla to be pretty sluggish on my XP1800 w/ 256 RAM

It is full featured and uses average 4-6 times less memory than IE 6.0 does on my computer. Normally a Phoenix browser will take up 1.5-2MB memory, whereas IE takes up 8-9MB. Phoenix is fast, reliable, and built on Mozilla code I believe. You can find it easily on Google.

Was just about to post that but decided to scan the posts before doing so. I second pheonix. It is quick, open source, skinnable, tabbed browsing...lots of great features.
