Hello, I am currently using IE 5 on my ultra ligt laptop (win 98, p2, 366 mhz, 128 ram), and it runs decently on the network. I have been looking into other browsers though, and i see people recommend mozilla and opera. However, would that be good on an old computer such as mine? thanks!

Doesn't opera cost like $30

I think that's a little steep for a web browser, considering almost every other one is totally free.

Translation: I use Internet Explorer. He wants a SMALL, EFFICIENT, RELIABLE, SECURE program. HE should use Opera. Mozilla is a bloated POS that was in the works for too long, and is now not getting anywhere. Netscape was good baaaack in the day, but it should've died long ago :) Have you seen the source code?

You forgot to mention that an ad-based version is available for free, and that again he wanted a SMALL EFFICIENT browser.

Don't tell me you understand all of that source code. If you do, props. For me, Mozilla feels as fast as IE at least. Opera has some memory leaks. With 7.01, I experienced sometimes a memory usage of 120MB.

Mozilla has nothing to do anymore with Netscape 4.

I withdraw my name from a pointless browser war discussion with people who don't understand Mozilla's source code :D

Apparently it is one of the toughest languages to learn, thanks to all the exceptions to rules and such.

Speaking is "kinda" easy but writing? Ugh....

What can I say. Compare the size of Opera to the size of Mozilla. Subtract 10 megabytes. If you get a positive number, Mozilla is bloat. Doom II was 15 MB, for crying out loud!!!

Do the ads make it even more efficient ?

Bloat is something that feels slow and sloppy IMO. Only because something is bigger, doesn't mean it's bloat, no?

i've tested a bunch on older computers. you REALLY want to avoid later browsers, they are not as lean and have extra crap you probably don't need.

from my testing results on a P200 MMX box,

Netscape 4.08 was pretty good.
